Their name is a mis-reading by an archaeologist of ผู้ชม, meaning "Audience" in Thai.

Nominally the 'death' entity among the energy cats, despite their visage they're there to make the transition easier for energy cats, who have three stages of death:

1. The last breath taken, where they become just 'materials' on the mortal plane. They fully exist but their physical form is too damaged to hold them coherently. เชิญ
2. The last remains; there's no longer have any pieces substiantial enough for them to possess at all. They're barred from the physical realm entirely, and the physical pieces can't be used to contact them. ฟัง
3. The last rememberance, where none can recall them, so none could come visit them in their realm either. ลืม

As there is a long period between the first and last stage, the energy cats souls need somewhere to be, and it would be cruel to leave them alone, so they sit with them, talking, letting them tell their stories but remembering none of them.
