Anyway, Ezela, the witch, went back in time and cursed his parents as some sort of revenge. Instead, she accidentally cursed him to have wings. That's how he got his wings in the first place. 

Growing up, everyone thought those wings were super cool, and that's how he has all the self-confidence in the world, and became the nuisance that Ezela wanted to get rid of in the first place.
