Rho Penance
Overview
Rho began life as a drop of blood fallen from a mysterious tree deep in the Crimson Badlands. Given form and rudimentary purpose, he first existed as an entity known as Rhogug—although he is uncertain whether that was a name, a title, or what he was. As his awareness grew, he formed a plan to consume the body and soul of a mortal he could use the memories and guise of to destroy the city he saw as encroaching on his homeland.
After killing an elf named Lazarus Mockfeather, Rho began life pretending to be Lazarus. Through his absorption of Lazarus' memories and experiences with mortals, he began to change and slowly become more human. Taking on the name Rho, he now wants to forge his own path and make up for the evils he once committed as a monster of the Crimson Badlands.
The impossible is never truly out of reach.

Rho is an odd sort, to say the least. As a new sentience, he is still learning much about the world and how to interact socially on his own terms rather than through the structure of Lazarus' memories. He tries to not look at Lazarus' memories anymore, but that often results in him seeming off or strange to others. Not always picking up on subtle cues or understanding how his own behavior might be perceived, he does what comes naturally to him. Rho, however, still has much to learn about emotion and behavior.
Rho without any facade of acting as Lazarus is very straightforward and honest. He does not understand being dishonest about his feelings in most situations. He may redirect conversations or request not to speak on certain topics or emotions if he does not wish to share something, but will very rarely directly lie about the things he feels or thinks. He does not always pick up on emotional subtleties, especially when they are nonverbal cues.
Rho is very openly affectionate and a fan of public displays of affection. He enjoys being close and casual touch, reaching out to lean against or hang off of his partners and even friends. Gifts and verbal declarations of love are also quite common for him. He is, in general, a fan of repeatedly affirming his dedication for those in his life.

- Clawed hands & feet, but the feet aren't noticeably different when wearing shoes. Hands, feet, and spade-tipped tail all are a freckled black that ombres into his skintone.

Senumbra was the first person that Rho truly bonded with. He found her in the midst of her possession and, after she came back to her senses, brought her with him to Candlewick City where he housed her. She learned quickly that Rho was not Lazarus Mockfeather who he was portraying himself as and encouraged Rho's development into his own thinking, feeling person. Senumbra was the first person to come to care for Rho as himself and to believe in his ability to be more than a senseless monster.
Senumbra and Rho are close, helping each other through thick and thin. He greatly admires her strength, resolve, and compassion. Likewise, Senumbra admires Rho's kindness and ability to change, learn, and grow as a person.
Rophmir and Rho had a tumultuous start to their relationship, to say the least. Rophmir was Lazarus' best friend and thus was devastated by learning of the elf's death by Rho's doing. He, however, begrudgingly agreed to work with Rho after it became apparent that Rho "inherited" Lazarus' demonic possession. Through their journey together to Lazarus' homestead in the Crimson Badlands, Rophmir came to see Rho beyond the consuming rage and grief. He saw the glimpses of humanity and potential that Rho carried, and tentatively agreed to keep Rho's secret in wait of who Rho may grow into.
Their relationship became more amicable as time went on, and the two became friends eventually. From their friendship, Rophmir came to care for Rho and find him quite adorable in his naivety and how easy he was to fluster. They've grown together greatly, especially since Rho asked Rophmir out on a date. Unfortunately, Rophmir is the main recipient now of Rho's anxiety surrounding his loved one's mortality and perceived fragility. He knows Rophmir can take care of himself, but past a certain point is incredibly aware of how precious a mortal life is and scared of losing it.
