Name: Kirin Master (キリンマスター) / DHN-001 / "Kirin" for short
AI age: 24
Pronouns: They/them
Occupation: Robot/mechanical repair
Height: 5'8" (173 cm)

Down a short street on the outskirts of Shibuya, a man named Dr. Hiroshi Hayashi opened a small lab with a storefront in order to start a robot repair business. In his research, he came up with nanotechnology that could quickly “heal” damage faster than the current standard. Hiroshi received enough funding from this discovery to implement it into something, so he created Kirin Master as a symbol of a new era of self-sustaining technology. Their design is based on the Japanese version of the creature, who is said to appear as an omen of good fortune.

They use the nanobot technology as their special power; it manifests in their hands, makes their horn glow, and spreads via touch. The nanobots are trained to repair based on what Kirin already knows about robotic build structures. They can feel through these nanobots, thus they do their job solely using their own processing power. For greater amounts of damage, though, they do know the ins and outs of using tools. Kirin does not possess any built-in weapons, as they are not designed for combat, but their creator did make their horn sharp enough for self-defense purposes.

Things went well for the two of them for several years, with the business becoming locally popular. On a chilly autumn day, the doctor traveled to another province to meet with investors over fully funding his nanotechnology. He felt Kirin was self-sufficient enough to take care of themselves and the business until he came back, so he told them to do so while he was gone. Unfortunately, that was the last time Kirin saw their creator, as he suddenly and tragically passed away.

They now run the repair shop by themselves, operating on those last instructions. They are now 'owned' by their creator's younger sister, Akari, though she and the rest of the family are not nearly as familiar with robotics as he was. She is distant with Kirin, though she does care for the robot, and for now they have been allowed to continue performing their job as normal.

Kirin has grown to be quieter and more reserved after this event, though they still are polite and generally helpful towards others. They tend to judge people and robots more fairly, rather than a black-and-white opinion. They don’t get out very much, but the shop does have regular operating hours; they just don’t feel comfortable being too far from home, even when it’s closed. They usually do not discuss their own grief, as they feel it would hinder their purpose of helping others.

Everything changes, though, when they meet a certain someone by chance at the Obon Festival...
