Profile

Vial is a sentient magic liquid living inside a humanoid glass container.

I use 'they' pronouns when referring to Vial by default, and will do so throughout this description.
Canonically, Vial is referred to by many descriptors, and so any pronouns you like are appropriate.
If you are curious about what gender they are-- well, liquid doesn't really have a gender, does it?

Character notes:

Vial was created (and trained) by a person known only as 'The Alchemist'.
The Alchemist died of old age, and left the research and shop to Vial's efficient care.
Despite their thorough training, Vial is not considered an official alchemist by any country.

Vial is considered a magical being, and is capable of using some small magic.
Among other things, they can manipulate nearby objects to move as they wish.
Most often, they manipulate their glass body in order to interact with their surroundings.

Being a liquid, Vial does not have vocal chords or any similar system.
They use pantomime and other gestures to communicate.
Since they can't 'talk over' others, they tend to be passive in decision-making.

Vial is notably very conscious of mortality.
If too much of them evaporates/spills/etc, they will most likely die, or be in a sort of motionless purgatory.
Because their own mortality is doubtful, and they are fond of humans, they work to protect the humans around them.
In particular, they continue their creator's work of finding 'the elixir of life'.
They hope to make humans immortal, or at least, to give them long and fulfilling lives.
Unlike their creator, they are not driven by a "fear" of loneliness, loss, or death.
Instead they are motiviated by good will toward their human friends.

Design notes:

Vial (the liquid) is colored in a variety of bright blues, purples, and pinks.
Floating in the liquid are a number of luminescent white orbs.

Vial's body is made of opaque glass with a transparent, vial-shaped 'head'.
They use a very thin pipe-like system to travel within the body, but are concentrated in the 'head'.
Vial is like many other liquids in that they can evaporate, spill, and so on.
Removing Vial from the body (say, into another container) causes the body to appear 'lifeless'.

Seams are visible at the major joints of the body, to allow for a range of simple motions.
However, the glass can sometimes can act similar to a normal human's body, and become "rubbery" or flexible.
How is this possible? Magic. If Vial particularly wants to appear human, he can manipulate the glass in this way.
Most often, they will manipulate the 'neck' to turn and bend, as it is closest to them and thus easier to manipulate.

Vial often carries a pair of goggles, worn around the neck or sometimes on the 'head'.
Humans seem to appreciate being able to "look them in the eyes" when interacting.

Vial also finds pockets hard to use, and prefers to wear a belt with a set of simple pouches.

Wardrobe notes:

✔ goggles
✔ belt or bandolier (with pouches)

✔any style appropriate to a European or desert fantasy setting

✘ pockets (difficult to use; hands catch on fabric material)
✘ long skirts or pants, heeled shoes (easy to trip in)
