About

The Inquisitor. Serene, professional, and condescending, 'Dove' is the emissary of eldritch gods here on Earth. His purpose is to maintain the status quo: to protect cults that worship his masters and serve as an intercessor, to dispose of those that know too much... and to keep track of any rogue eldritch beings poking around where they don't belong. Killing, fraternizing, simply observing: Dove treats everything like it's business. Barring his often patronizing attitude, he's unfalteringly polite - even when condemning someone to death. More than anything, he is a force of nature, a soul who seeks to dole out the punishments for breaking the universe's laws. Fastidious as he is ruthless, few alive can say they've been witness to his more sadistic side. Suffice it to say that his consummate mask of tranquility is hiding quite a bit below the surface, and it's not pleasant.

Dove does not show himself in human society under ordinary circumstances. Rather, he is only seen by those who have learned too much about eldritch beings, or by those beings themselves. He has no interest in integrating into humanity, unlike one particular individual he has taken an interest in.

Standing at 5'5", Dove's body is sleek and narrow, though not otherwise remarkable... unless you care to mock his petite height, by men's standards. Befitting his moniker, his human form sports a wavy bob of snow white hair, parted down the middle. Like his hair, his eyebrows and eyelashes are similarly pale. His peculiar gaze, typically hard to read if not emotionless, is heterochromatic- one pale blue eye, one deep chocolate brown. Fairly angular, his facial structure is accentuated by a strong jawline. His appearance leans toward being androgynous, but his voice is resonant and surprisingly deep. He's got a simple black ring for a septum piercing.

Dove has the posture of an attentive soldier, rigid and upright. It's almost enough to make him seem taller than he is. A polite smile graces his face more often than not, and it's exceedingly rare to see him express anything beyond his typical mood: patient, civil, diplomatic. Typically, he's seen sharply dressed in a suit, but occasionally wears more feminine attire- whatever the case, he's never found dressing casually. Indeed, the word 'casual' is perhaps his antonym. Although he has a calm, relaxed confidence, he is nevertheless always 'in character;' always on duty. He's so businesslike that it's almost hard to take anything he says personally... almost. Even at his most pleasant, Dove radiates a very uncomfortable aura. For most, it seems impossible to relax around him, but that may be in their best interest.

When showing himself to fellow eldritch beings or to worshippers of the gods he speaks for, Dove sometimes takes on all the benevolent trappings of an angel: white wings, white attire, and... a strange halo of oil-slick tar, undulating and splitting into iridescent globules. Other times, the halo is made of blood. He is certainly one for theatrics, when the situation calls for such.

When removing unlucky souls from existence, or simply as a threat display, he has the ability to split any part of his body into a truly horrifying mouth with far too many teeth. The dimensions of the mouth are bigger on the inside- that is, his body functions as a portal to... someplace else. It's rumored that being consumed by him is, in some way, a fate worse than death. Certainly, oblivion is a better fate than whatever Dove has in store for his targets.

--- personality ---
Beneath his polite exterior, Dove is a Machiavellian sadist with an inferiority complex for which he greatly overcompensates. His station as a servant of higher powers is unsatisfying to him. As a pure control freak, he wishes to be the one in charge; the one who oversees everything. Though he cannot be that in the greater scheme of things, he *can* be that on Earth, and he revels in his superiority here.

Although his purpose on Earth is to follow the orders of greater gods than he, Dove nevertheless takes liberties where he can. He would never defy an order, but is happy to bend the rules to give himself some personal enjoyment. He often prolongs the hunt for rogue eldritch beings purely to maximize the satisfaction he gets from their suffering, and he does not shy away from teasing and taunting targets with his presence rather than simply taking them out with a professional's grace. Indeed, he gets far too emotionally attached to these affairs. He delights in watching people squirm, honing his own aura to be as uncomfortable for others as possible. He could simply turn it off, and have no aura at all... but where's the fun in that?

Beyond his fellow abominations, Dove enjoys toying with humans, too, and particularly enjoys directing cults. He is bitter that none of them worship him, instead prostrating themselves before more powerful and significant gods... but, since he is their intercessor, he can still gain some satisfaction from ordering them around.

As for other humans- those who have learned too much about the old gods- Dove takes a particular interest in them. Some, he kills right away, lest they spread their knowledge. For others, though, he chips steadily away at their sanity, taking great satisfaction in watching them crumble to dust before him. Then, of course, they are consumed, never to be seen again.

--- abilities ---
Dove has a wide range of abilities befitting a minor eldritch god. He is capable of making himself invisible, providing no indications of his presence- he spends most of his time this way, observing. He can teleport both long and short distances. His aura can be turned off or even amplified at will, and leads others to feel that his presence is anywhere from unsettling to deeply disturbing. Additionally, there is of course the matter of the shapeshifting mouths.

Physically, he can be harmed in a way similar to a human. However, being that he can render himself intangible, it seems that he mostly allows this to happen for fun, enjoying the heat of battle. If harmed enough, he will 'die' and then regenerate. Although he may have other ways to kill someone that are less messy, it seems that he enjoys doing it through brutal, hands-on physical force, using his mouths as well as excessive strength. Generally speaking, he has the ability to permanently kill entities that are otherwise immortal if he chooses to do so, including his fellow eldritch abominations.

His true form, like others of his kind, is so disturbing that it breaks the mind of humans and other lesser beings, though he rarely reveals it to anyone. He may allow some glimpses, though, if he's truly seeking to devastate someone's psyche.

"There is an immutable and rational order that fate itself has composed. All things run their inevitable courses, down the topology of the universe, toward the mass of this black gravity."
