Fr02ty is an older-than-earth piece of robot type we've come to known as "Guardians". They lived alongside the Ancients as protectors and in Fr02ty's case, has inspired the design of other creations such as Shadow The Hedgehog, who was originally inspired by a hedgehog-looking being in old echidna ruins. This depiction of a hedgehog was in fact one of the Guardians hundreds of years after the earliest known evolution of Ancients after they had migrated to Angel Island after the end of their original world, defending earth from a much later mutated Chaos.
Byte's technology includes the ability to function on nothing but carbon dioxide, and repurpose that CO into Oxygen even with balances of either are against the odds - much like the reverse cycle of a tree. This comes in handy in the far future, where Silver and other reside, making the air more breathable for those around him. The remaining carbon dioxide that remains in the body to power him up gets contained in ice-like temperatures to ensure endurance, turning it into dry ice. once the dry ice seeps out of the gasmask-like breathers from his cheeks and back, it melts and gets released into the air.

Fr02ty was created by the Ancients to have extra hands on deck leading up to the fight with The End, given this situation, Guardians are able to use the powers of the Chaos Emeralds, Master Emerald and access Cyberspace.

METAL • PARTNER
As a random encounter when looking for resources for survivors, Fr02ty met Metal Sonic in the future after Metal had sacrificed himself to send Shadow back to the present during the events of Sonic Rivals 2.
SILVER • FRIEND
Silver was introduced to Fr02ty upon being brought back to life by some remaining survivors of the future. They've become good friends ever since - finding comfort in how they both relate in a lot of aspects.
