Literally a guy, actually an animal. But a really smart one (think ... The equivalent of httyd dragon's)

MUCH later (post-story) Chime becomes bonded to August (when Aug is ~25).

trivias 

• likes staring at things and making them uncomfortable about it
• causes problems on purpose. Enjoys knocking things over. Also hitting things in general.
• Likes mimicking chime and bell noises (hence his name, given to him by his first bonded storm spirit). Apart from this Chime is a very quiet beast, not a man of many noises. When he makes noises it is important.
• likes crunching on/eating metals mmmm tasty.
• Gives ppl rocks and mushrooms to show he likes them. And you better smile about it or he will be very sad.
• Staring at you (affectionate). But also, staring at you (Hatred). Yes these look nearly the same (to the untrained eye).
• Hates loud noises and many noises at once.
• Likes making art alongside August. And you better clap and gush at whatever he makes even if it’s a rock with a green paint splatter on it. (Later becomes like… Genuinely scarily competent. Mixed-media mostly abstract sculpture + repetitive patterns type stuff). Likes to gift August tiny art pieces he makes, because August is so earnestly fascinated and delighted by it.
• Despite losing his original bonded partner, chime still most often mimics their voice instead of august’s.

Backstory+ history

• at the time of meeting August… in the terms of Chime’s lifespan he’s like… Middle-aged. Lived/was raised in a storm spirit pod from birth – when he was in his early 30s the pod dissolved/died? Or the very least, Chime’s bonded storm spirit died. Maybe the same event that caused the pod to dissolve? A betrayal or accident? And then Chime acted out in rage against the other storm spirits/wormbeasts? He was exiled OR he voluntarily left? His bonded was in a leadership position in his pod and another killed them because of this?
• Fed up with storm spirit scene, and heartbroken from the loss of his bonded spirit, chime lived in solitary for decades – traveling throughout Pippaf and exploring South, where he had never been (and warned about going to for the dangers, but almost as a form of rebellion, decided to brave it).
• Then one day, after many decades, chime sensed another worm beast nearby. In a mix of bitter loneliness, desperation, and curiosity, he sought it out, and found skitter, August, and Amek hanging out. He was appalled that the other worm beast was associated, and worse, being FRIENDLY with a creature who wasn’t a storm spirit. But he was so curious, he kept finding them and lurking.
• He wanted to hate August, but slowly, Amek and skitter won him over. And there was something from the start about August that intrigued him. (+ Once he learned of August’s dokad status, this threw chime for a loop, but only made him more intrigued. August was unlike all the other leaders chime had met in his life, but in a good way. He was gentle and compassionate, but not a pushover either. August quickly (much to chime's annnoyance) earned Chime's respect the more he was around him).
