personality
Tokiya generally has an ineloquent way of speaking, even for a high school boy. He knows how to be polite when socially necessary, but he will not go out of his way to be friendly to strangers. He lacks grace and poise overall. He's not good at critical thinking and prefers things to be simple and casual. His careless demeanor makes him somewhat unsociable, and as such he grew up with only a few friends, avoiding the headache of rumors and drama as best he could. Still, he tries his best to appear cool in front of others, and sometimes falls for inane mainstream trends as a result. On a personal level, he is an easygoing conversationalist, as long as no lines are crossed. He can be cranky, awkward, or closed off with people until he reaches a certain level of closeness, at which point he becomes much more comfortable and friendly, though still embarrassed about showing too much affection. Amongst such friends, his comfort level can cause him to be unintentionally inconsiderate, but for him it is a display of friendship.
He doesn't like to study or work hard, nor admit to his problems, let alone try to fix them. Still, he tries not to let them get in anyone's way, even if mostly just to avoid being lectured about it or feeling guilty over it. He feels that as long as he doesn't cause a problem for someone else, he can do whatever he wants. Regardless, he harbors some distress over his lack of progress in life, but doesn't know how, and is a bit afraid, to start working on it. He can get defensive or angry when people try to point that type of thing out to him. Once he feels annoyed or imposed upon, he is prone to arguing or snapping back, but he is usually all bark and no bite and will avoid fights and trouble. He feels especially uncomfortable around teachers and authority, as he is often trying to avoid accountability.

+ Easy-going, loyal friend, good moral sense, forgiving, well-meaning
- Wastes time, shy/unsociable, unskilled, defensive, academically below average

【 Only child of a single mom, got super lazy/avoidant when it came to school work, now feels guilty for being a burden and like he has no purpose anyway and just wants to sleep and put off everything. 】

backstory
When Tokiya was a baby, his father went to work abroad, but decided to leave the relationship due to personal revelations made during his life overseas. His parents were soon divorced. Tokiya’s gentle, loving mother raised him alone, knowing his father did not want to be a part of their lives anymore. Tokiya didn’t know he had a father until his mother told him the truth once he was old enough to understand. It doesn’t particularly bother him; they have never been in contact as far as he is concerned. His mother’s priority is his comfort and happiness.

He was a fairly quiet and tame child, but gradually became lazy and unmotivated with school work and responsibilities as he got older. Thanks to that and his complete lack of natural aptitude for academics, his grades became a concern to teachers, but he did not want to face the issue. Thus, along with this slacking off, he developed a prickly, defensive, and eventually rebellious attitude, to the point that he sometimes acts like a delinquent as a snap-reaction to even a little questioning. He is now a second year at Kakumu High School. He lives with his mother, and cuts class occasionally, living a laid-back life of loitering around town and sometimes visiting the arcade by himself, doing just enough school work to skate by.

As the end of his school life as a minor draws near, though, the pressure for him to figure himself out and shape up is growing. Tokiya feels like he doesn’t know who he is or what he’s good at. He doesn’t feel like he has a purpose. He’s not ready for entrance exams or graduation next year. He doesn’t want high school to end. He feels guilty for imposing on his mother when he contributes nothing to her life or to society. Meanwhile, that Sleeping Sickness has been popping up on the news, in the very neighborhood where he attends school. He wishes he could sleep the days away like that, even if it’s just until he figures out why he even wakes up every day in the first place...

Combat style:
Tokiya fights in an untrained, undisciplined, hand-to-hand style. He relies mostly on the brute force of his fists. After a while of fighting Shadows, he learns to start wearing gloves and knuckle weapons. He begins finding/purchasing more advanced short-range weapons like katars.
He has a decent offense, but he lacks efficiency, defense skills, and strategy to fully utilize his strength and stamina, or keep himself from getting hurt.

Sexuality:
He assumes himself to be heterosexual and heteroromantic but he’ll find out he’s pan/pan (MEANING I’m open to ship romantically with anyone but he is gonna have some closet issues at first if it’s not a cishet thing :^(...... thx internalized toxic masculinity)

Voice claim:
Nobuhiko Okamoto - like this till 4:27 is a decent sample because of all the tiredness and complaining lmao. also like smth in between Rin Okumura and Bakugo (same actor) when he yells???

Story behind his scar:
He got the scar on his head when he was 8. He disobediently went out to ride his bicycle without his mother’s supervision, because she was working and too busy to go out with him. He ventured too far, to an area with a slope which caused him to lose control of his speed and crash the bike. The cement he landed on gave him a large gash on his head and knocked him out. His mother searched for him, found him herself, brought him to a hospital and stayed by his side to make sure he recovered well. This incident was a time that he realized his mother is too busy with working, cooking, and cleaning, to go out and play with him often, which he selfishly demanded. Since he got injured, she had to drop everything to take care of him, and it just caused more stress for her. Even so, she was fully willing to make the time when he needed her. It made him see that life is not easy for her, so he decided to avoid troubling her from then on--though that would later conflict with his rebellious attitude, especially toward school. The scar reminds him of his guilt.
