Human (Curse of Immortality)

Alias

The Forsaken Jongleur, "Hideous Clown" (by Paimon)

Age

Has been stuck in the limbo of forever being in their mid-twenties for the past 500 years.

Gender + Pronouns

Non-Binary. They/Them for simplicity's sake, but Coreiseuse ultimately does not care what is used to address them.

General Occupations

Former royal court jester...Full time thorn at Dainsleif's side. For as long as they have been living, and with how quickly bored they get, it is hard to think what Coreiseuse has not done as a hobby at this point.

Nation

Khaenri'ah

Vision

None

Weapon Style + Attack Gimmicks

Rapier sword. Their fighting style is unknown, as Coreiseuse tends to be one to only indulge in a fight the moment they decide it would be a good challenge. Outwardly, this makes people perceive them as lazy and/or a coward.

Profile

Name Pronunciation + Trivia: Core•azz•euse, "wrathful". Named after the Demonic Sword of King Ban, father of Lancelot. When in doubt, sword names are always fun. I feel as though it compliments Dainsleif as well, since he is also named after a mythological sword.

Lore is subject to change, as we get only so much information about the Abyss to start with...

Coreiseuse has been by Dainsleif's side since the Cataclysm of Khaenri'ah. They were once the royal court jester, who escaped execution for unknown reasons and absconded to the Bough Keeper's side...since the abyss had no desire in keeping them.

They seem to directly contrast Dainsleif's more quiet and contemplative demeanor, and are of the type to be obnoxious and often dramatic. Coreiseuse comes across as someone detached from the reality of the world, in both how they speak and handle combat. The jester appears lazy and is quick to complain about the most minor of inconveniences. When pushed to actually draw their sword and to fight, they make an effort to skip around and to toy with the enemy. It is rare to see them act very...serious about anything.

That is upon first impressions, though. Coreiseuse is a master at keeping up a façade to hide true intent, and has proven to be insanely useful on multiple occasions at whittling out information in areas where Dainsleif fails to do so.

The Traveler and Paimon encountered them for the first time while exploring Enkanomiya. With the previous Abyss Quests, they had only been in the presence of Dainsleif alone. Coreiseuse is a surprise that unfolds while doing a world quest that randomly occurs while exploring the forgotten civilization's depths. The Traveler is tasked to retrieve another book from one of the apparations that appear in the overworld, the ghost says it is of utmost importance that the book must be returned to them at once. The quest emphasizes that it could be information that could further help the Traveler and their journey throughout Teyvat, with which the book is claimed to possess some crucial details that played into the Abyss Order.

It's one of those longwinded puzzle quests, and by the time everything falls into place it ultimately becomes a fruitless endeavor. By the time the Traveler finally reaches the chamber in which the book is supposed to be residing in, they are met with Coreiseuse already there and with their back turned to them and the object that the Traveler had spent a ridiculous amount of time looking for in their hands. It is obvious that there would have been even more difficult things to face, had Coreiseuse never been there, with various ruin machines already broken down and scattered about their feet. Coreiseuse regards the Traveler and Paimon with a surprised look, and clearly not wanting to have to deal with another thing they must fight, quickly takes the book and leaves into what appears to be an abyss portal.

The quest is setup to have the Traveler and Paimon assume that they are another enemy that purposely came to thwart with their desire for knowledge, and that they will have to eventually deal with them later.

The next encounter is in the Chasm quest with Dainsleif. Coreiseuse appears shortly after Dainsleif, complaining loudly about abyssal portal networks, and Paimon is quick to verbally express her horror and recognition of them. There is a bunch of initial misunderstanding, and it ends in Dainsleif having to tell the two that Coreiseuse is his friend and traveling companion, that they only until recently could meet the Traveler themself because Dainsleif had tasked them to retrieve some documents he knew that the abyss could be intent to have their eyes on.

Coreiseuse recognizes them from Enkanomiya, and laughs at the idea that they could even be an evil envoy sent from the Abyss to track down and cause harm to either the Traveler or Dainsleif. The book that they had taken is brought up again, and Coreiseuse presents it to the Traveler and Paimon. Unfortunately, it has nothing drastic of note, and it is another storybook added to the archive.

Paimon is slower to trust Coreiseuse than the Traveler, and naturally she gives them a signature ugly nickname.
