Professor of intangible powers
As quick with his wit as he is with his daggers, Vylen exudes charm and charisma in all he does. In fact, it's often to an absurdly exaggerated degree. His self-aggrandizing humor and his tendency never to panic, no matter the odds, make him a positive presence to be around. While this can, at times, be a mask to hide inner turmoil, it is largely genuine. Vylen's care for his students and love of the subject he teaches make him a good fit for his role.

Vylen's excellence in the field of intangible powers lends itself to the mastery of several abilities:
- Light manipulation
- Darkness manipulation
- Manipulation of non-physical concepts: ideas, beliefs, secrets, non-physical magic
The extent of 'intangible powers' is far-reaching, and as there is always more to learn, Vylen keeps up in the newest discoveries of his field at all times.
Vylen teaches students who have abilities that are non-physical in nature. Magic that is not elemental nor something you can touch, such as Light/Darkness magic, is the most common. However, there are others.

After the introduction of the gateway system, Vylen's realm formed a military operation tasked with the realm's defense. The Shadewalkers were meant as a contingency, a last-resort measure, and thankfully they have yet to be mobilized even today. However, Vylen was part of them.
Renowned even in his own realm for his expertise in intangible powers, Jovian Academy was quick to pick up on his presence and reach out to him. Though Vylen had never taught before, he took to it naturally, curtailing some of his more dangerous habits in an effort to keep his new students safe.
His Light- and Darkness-infused daggers are from his time as a Shadewalker. He infused them with their magic himself, and they are quite special to him.
