about

Joey Lakomy is a famous director whose extensive filmography balances experimentation with popular appeal. He is most famous for his works in the argyle drama genre, a form of multilinear narrative film which he is said to have originated. However, he has worked in a variety of other genres. He takes heavy inspiration from late 20th century film, music, and pop culture. Unlike many directors, he's known for being pretty chill and generally easy to work with.

history

Joey began his career intending to screenwrite for arthouse films. But after the planned director for his screenplay, All the Dead Soda Shops, suddenly died, he stepped in and directed it himself. Having then discovered his talent for directing, the film's modest success led Joey to direct another original film, Monument, released in 2125. Not only was Monument a surprise hit that stunned critics and won multiple awards--as if that wasn't enough, Joey had fallen in love with another filmmaker, Vera Verdant. She proposed to him right after the film's release, and they were married in 2126. Their child, Rain, was born the following year.

Over the next few years, Joey would direct three more acclaimed films that pushed boundaries while still appealing to a wide audience. His career was going great and his family was happy. However, this didn't last, as his marriage suddenly fell apart. He got divorced and then immediately began work on The Making of a Spaghetti Western God. When it came out in 2137, it flopped, and critics called it his worst yet. But this didn't dissuade him, because he had many more ideas, he was beginning a new relationship, and he had been inspired by the newly emerging style of so-called cave flicks. Following another unfortunate flop, he released Virtuous Filth in 2144 to immediate success. It remains his most well-regarded film to this day, although he has had many more acclaimed and significant works since.

Joey is a tall, older man with short, curly, dark gray hair that is starting to lighten, and a gray goatee. He has thick eyebrows and is very hairy. His nose is crooked from having been previously broken. Both his ears are pierced twice. His build is lean and slightly muscular. He can usually be seen wearing weirdly cut sweaters, linen pants, socks with sandals, and purple nail polish.

relationships

Elias
Joey's husband, a musicologist. They met while Joey was on vacation in Finland. They got married in 2140 and have enjoyed many happy years together. Joey attributes the success of their marriage to the fact that Elias has absolutely no interest in film.
Vera
Joey's ex-wife, a notable cinematographer. Though it didn't work out between them, they're on good terms. They have a child, Rain, who's now 33 years old and works as an engineer.
Tetra Halt
Ever since he saw her film We Dream Concrete, Joey has been a big supporter of Tetra Halt's work, and she's a fan of his work too. They are friendly acquaintances; Joey is still trying to convince Tetra that they should collaborate.

"It wouldn't be filmmaking if everything went right."
