MANDU

SHORT FOR MANDURUGO: a type of filipino shapeshifter that is similar to a vampire. 

doesn’t have a true given name as her mother never bothered & never cared for her children. a distant type of parent that uses her offspring to harvest blood for herself so that she no longer has to dirty her own hands. 

her other siblings have either chosen their own names or were given it to them by others: mandu just has never seemingly cared to have a name of her own.

normal lore: probably a distant relative to somnus. the first time they met though, she bonded with him over the fact that they have similar scars. loves to call him a stray since he’s a dhampir. very intrigued by his whole alternate timeline trauma & how his alternate self almost destroyed somnus’ real timeline in order to “save” the love of his life.

ffxiv lore? still a mandurugo. a warrior of light? probably not? has connections to Maeve (one of my warrior of light ocs that have always retained their Azem’s, Aletheia, memories in every rebirth of themselves.) & likely sticks around them because of it.

Mandu was probably one of Aletheia’s earliest creations: an exhausting event that was filled with mistakes on Aletheia’s part. She envisioned beautiful harpy-like creatures, inspired by Meteion and her kindness. But wanted to test the waters of multiple tiny fae-sized creatures. She wasn’t hoping for something as complex as Meteion especially since Aletheia wasn’t great with creation magick in the beginning. But it was because of this that she ran into many problems and as a result of her frustrations and pushing herself beyond her limits; she finally created Mandu, who retained a little too much of Aletheia’s likeliness & you could feel much more than just Aletheia’s aether in this creature.

Essentially though, somehow, like Maeve— Mandu retains her “original” memories but has been reborn with the same likeliness that she’s been created with every rebirth. Which is why she sticks with Maeve and could be seen as a “co-WoL”.
