Canaan and Valentijn are brothers, raised by a single father; a burly scruffy man that is probably some sort of ex military/fbi/fighter of sorts. But my no means was he a bad parent, he did the best he could and had/has a healthy relationship with both boys. Vale does have a more strained relationship with him due to having to take a helping role when raising his brother. Cane and V have the closest and tightest brother bond, and they live together most of the time.
When Valentijn and Cane moved back to italy at the start of highschool their father was still traveling around a lot, so the two boys were mostly on their own. V as the responsible big brother tried to keep shit together but ended up partying quite heavy due to all the stress of handling stuff all the time. He found himself at seedy clubs and dingy dive bars more often than not, and one day he stepped into a dark basement, that ended up being a burlesque club. There his interest got caught by a tall, wide and burly man sitting alone in a dark corner, that upon approaching around turned out to be Coal, his mysterious classmate that rarely talks but is good at sports and is definitely easy on the eyes. Of course V wasn't gay at all... Definitely not.... But Coal snuck up on him, even though they eventually settled into being completely platonic best friends, despite their initial moments.
Coal comes into play as Vales best friend but ends up in some situations with the ever pursuing and interested Canaan, who doesn't like no for an answer from him. This has raised a lot of conversations between the three of them but has not changes the brothers or best friends dynamics in the end, and now this situation is really normal to them. Coal does live with the boys most of the time despite having his own apartment.
Valentjin and Canaans origins are italian, but they are quite multilingual and rootless due to moving every few years because of their fathers work. They only settled permanently back to italy when Valentijn was starting high school. V and Coal met in first year, both being very into sports but also music. They were each others gay realisations, platonically, and grew really close from the experience.
Canaan met Coal obviously due to Coal and Vale hanging out on the daily, and they became a great trio of friends. Ezera comes into play first year of Canaans high school, and just slipts in to the best friend / lil sister role with Cane. Sometime in the first year of university Ezera realised shed fallen for Valentijn, BAD. During those same times she also started questioning her femininity. Ended up on the nb end of a fem identity and also realised she needed to get the fuck over her major crush on V. That still hasn't happened tho...
When V&C were younger, they used to have to sing their own permission slips and they had their own co-card linked to their father's account, and often did their own grocery shopping. Thus ending up with glorious dinner concoctions like nacho grilled cheese (nachos shoved between two cheese toasties) or pepperoni pasta (any pasta with pepperoni slices chucked in, nothing else) when they were younger. And both of them still occasionally make some of these concoctions for, you know, nostalgia reasons 🤌🏻 This did end up impacting Canaan's career choices, since as a young adult he ended up as a chef in a dive bar with bangin' food and a rough crowd. He especially loved the leather heavy lgbtq leaning backroom club...
