Profile

A Dumblotraight with weak bones and even weaker talent for practically everything. Matj spent most of his early life trying to find something that he could be proficient in, and every turn he took led to yet another inevitable disappointing dead end. Magic always fascinated him, especially street and show magic put on for viewers. He'd always envied gods and other skilled magic users who seemed to have their whole lives made for them, and felt bitter that he would never understand that level of success.

In his desperation, he turned to a luck god, Bimbel, in hopes that he could perhaps gain some luck to his otherwise dead streak of magical talent, and enable him to become somebody on Dwurm. As it goes with Bimbel, who needs something substantial to replace the magic he loses from the exchange, he demanded the good feelings, the happiness and enjoyment, that Matj would feel after his shows. It sounded preposterous to Matj; if not for enjoyment, why else would he perform? Why perform at all if he can't feel happy about it?

Because without it, he can't even perform at all.

He made the deal with Bimbel, sacrificing his own happiness for stardom, and it has been wildly successful. His luck turned immediately, allowing his tricks to be performed flawlessly with ease, and attracting Dumblotraights from far and wide who come to see his shows. Every show Matj puts on is sold out within minutes, and every new trick he tries always works, and by all rights he should be happy about it. He has everything he wanted.

But he can't be. And for as long as the luck is active, he never will be.
