Marzipan will never be his own band’s lead singer. Any sound from his mouth triggers muscle deterioration - the longer and louder he drones on, the faster another person’s muscles decay. Ever since his anomaly manifested, the hoopoe became an outcast who picked up on speaking through guitar strings. Marzipan is forced communicate through sign language, and attention-grabbing expression manifests in his wardrobe as flashy getups. Sehnsucht, his eurodance band making waves in the underground scene, helped him find an outlet for his silence but it’s never enough. Marzipan projects his desire to speak by trying to be the center of attention in ways that come off as petulant. All he wants is for people to know who he is in the silence between songs. But when the government learns of his party trick, getting sidelined in conversation becomes the least of his worries.
