Velyre
unfriendly . curious . unconventional
Velyre never wanted to be a witch. She didn't even think she could use magic. Her parents did not know any magic, but they were delighted to discover that her younger sister had the potential to become a priestess. Yet when a blight descended upon the shepherds' flocks, the only one brave--or foolish--enough to venture to the witch's hut in the woods was Velyre. At first, she was surprised but grateful that the witch agreed to help. In return, the witch only asked that Velyre assist her with her spells. She spent a few weeks gathering herbs and fetching water for her. After she returned, the others looked at her differently. She didn't understand why. She tried not to rouse suspicion, but strangeness followed her like a cloud. A priestess's power was holy and Divine-given; a witch's power had to be forged by earthly, bloody means.
Eventually, she resorted to that power. In a moment of desperation, she made a terrible bargain with a darkness in the woods. A loved one's life was saved, but in return, she could never see them again. And so Velyre left the family that could no longer remember her, shouldering her pain as payment for as long as she could.
