Barley is very vain, always talking about himself highly and complaining about how Littleswallow (the eldest medicine cat) never seems him the way he sees himself. He begs her and Kelpstar for an apprentence so that he can "pass down his exquisite knowledge" and totally not talk about himself all day to the poor apprentice.
Fortunately for him, Skunkshadow sits and listens through all his complaining and self appreciation. He does appreciate his company, however, and likes having him around. It's feels good to know that there's at least one person in this clan willing to listen to you.
He has long, silky fur much like a cocker spaniel dog. His fur is tan with dark brown markings. The markings on his tail resemble a flame, hence, the name. He wears pieces of barley/wheat on his hear (under his right ear. His eyelashes are long. His eyes are green/hazel. His hair (or fur??) is tied into a ponytail at the back with brambles and the front covers his right eye. One of his paws is scarred down the middle due to an accident that happened to him as a kitten.
