Profile
A height most men will never reach
A handsome, greying black tom with blue eyes.
A good, reliable warrior if ever there was one. He was already an experienced warrior during the War, but as quick to accept peace negotiations as he was to jump into battle. He seems more than willing, eager even, to let bygones be bygones and to heal CanyonClan's reputation. Murkywater has served CanyonClan loyally and without question for a very long time.
To CanyonClan, Murkywater is and always has been a model warrior. Reliable and proactive in the community, Murkywater is among the first to volunteer when something needs doing. He's glad-hearted in battle, but eager to negotiate. He by-and-large befriends the older cats, but (as he insists with a smile) he won't let his younger Clanmates outpace him without a fight. He takes immense pride in CanyonClan and his family within & without, respecting his son's decision to strike it out in CreekClan- though not without the occasional worried visits to the border, inquiring on his wellbeing.) He maintains a friendly and loving fatherhood in the wake of his daughter Batshadow's tempestuous nature, and he unquestioningly adores his mate Eveningmoon...though he's not above flirtation with other cats, perhaps the only scandal he's yet faced.

Murkywater's inner world could be described as a hall of shadows and polished mirrors. Vain and self-obsessed, he has always had a vision for CanyonClan- one with Murkywater running the show. He has a low opinion of many cats around him and believes the world would be better if he got the recognition he deserved. He keeps his interactions friendly with everyone in his clan, but this (like many things Murkywater does) is in service to higher goals. Even if he despises a cat, he must have them like him. The more a cat likes him, the easier it will be to mold them into the person he needs them to be. He is not above manipulating others to do his bidding.
He spent moons training his son Shadedsky to lead in his stead, once it was clear he wouldn't be chosen as Deputy- but that's become a topic of dismay and deep frustration. Both of his kits are, in his eyes, clear disappointments. Shadedsky is wasting his talents in CreekClan, and Batshadow is a brat acting out when he won't reward her attitude. The only cat who truly escapes his expectations (read: that they be more like him) is Eveningmoon. Eveningmoon is his partner in crime, his collaborator in his vision for CanyonClan. If they wander, they always come back together in the end. If he were to have a fling she would know about it and he would sooner break it off callously than leave her.
Physical Description
Murkywater is a sleek tom with smooth, short fur. His coat is starting to get grey streaks as he ages. He walks with his head held high and has excellent posture. He is surprisingly muscular and strong, despite his lithe appearance.

Adulthood
Since his young adulthood, Murkywater has dreamed of leading the clan he calls home. Every time positions of higher standing were chosen, he's found himself passed by. He was always a gracious loser, delighted to congratulate everyone who was favoured...but he was a loser nonetheless. Resentment took root inside him and grew. No one understood that Murkywater's leadership would finally be what CanyonClan needed: strength & ferocity when needed, and charisma & tact in turn. Cowardice and pigheaded violence were the great evils that plagued the canyons, duelling sins that overtook one another at every term...but no one but him could see it.
Everything changed for Murkywater when his his kits were born. The moment he saw his firstborn, Shadedkit, he knew in his heart that this kit would be the future of the Clan. He took an interest in creating the perfect leader, even training Shadedpaw himself. Murkywater was never a cruel mentor, but his expectations for Shadedpaw were astronomical. Yet, every time, his son rose to the challenge. Despite the ridiculous length of the war, Shadedpaw (and later Shadedsky) was something Murkywater could truly be proud of.
And then he was gone. Despite having disappeared, Murkywater was adamant in believing his son would return to them. He did eventually return...except this time, he had joined CreekClan. Murkywater was utterly devastated. Years of work, of real progress, wasted. And when he turned to his daughter Batshadow, his contingency plan, what he saw was a spoiled rude bully. Clearly, he was so focused on Shadedsky that he had ignored Batshadow's training and left her to be taken in by someone with lower standards. Just as much a disappointment. He's starting to think again...must he do everything himself?
Relationships
STANDING
CanyonClan
Modern CanyonClan is a farce, a shadow of what it once was and always could have been. Not that Murkywater has agreed with any Leader, really- Sandstar was a bloodthirsty idiot incapable of diplomacy, Aspenwatcher a coward, Duskwatcher intelligent but lacking humility, and Tempestwatcher...the jury is still out. Her leadership is new, so he will wait to see how CanyonClan shakes out...for now.
STANDING
BriarClan
The war has broken them. This clan is now weak and divided, with no clear way forward. There are still some cats from before the war that he respects and actually doesn't mind.
STANDING
CreekClan
Traitors, mostly. A few utopian idealogues. Some kittypets- at least they're trying. A few intriguing cats, especially their mysterious guests.
Eveningmoon
There is no one in the world more perfect than Eveningmoon. She is his partner in crime, his lover, his life. His eyes may wander, but he always returns. The only cat worthy of standing beside him.
Batshadow
Murkywater is deeply disappointed in Batshadow. He wishes he could have done more to correct the path she took in life. After she ran away and came back injured and sick, he's hoping he can do something to make things better between them. Ultimately, despite his disappointment he would still come to her defence. She hates him...but he can't bring himself to hate her back.
Shadedsky
Murkywater had astronomic expectations for Shadedsky, and he met them all. His son was his proudest achievement...until he ran away and defected to CreekClan. He's wasting his gifts, all his training. Murkywater's disappointment goes without saying.
Barkbite
Barkbite and Murkywater enjoyed a positive relationship before the war, and since have met up on occasion. The two hold no ill will and, surprisingly, Murkywater seems to respect him a great deal more than other BriarClan cats.
Mountainheart
The worst, stupidest choice of deputy there could have been. Mindless brute. Battlehungry monster who can only gauge worth in terms of brute physical strength. The day she leads is the day CanyonClan falls.
