The name 'Aten' translates closely to 'Spurn' in Common tongue, and so it has slowly become known that a red man named Spurn will grant your deepest of desires, should you have the means to pay and the understanding of consequence. Having been raised as an outcast, Aten speaks little of his homeland and nought of his childhood, and it is clear that the tiefling reflects the distrust and hatred which had been pushed upon him since birth. As one of the few tieflings of Waterdeep, Aten is no stranger to superstitions, and so himself has become disdainful of other races.

Aten comes across to most as all-seeing and remarkably narcissistic, using his sly charisma to talk others into giving him what he wants. His demeanour is mysterious and alluring, and his affinity for gold and shiny trinkets is something which is hard to leave unnoticed. His silver tongue as spoken many promises; each of which he has kept, regardless of the method.

Many have travelled afar to seek Spurn, and deal with his ghastly magic and conjurations.

Somewhere out there, Aten has a daughter he has never met. She knows nothing of him, which he believes is for her own well-being.

Gold. The tiefling's greed is undeniable, as is his lack of charity.

Wine. Fine red wine, true to taste.

Strange Trinkets. Perhaps his mother was a magpie. He carries a tiny silver cage with no door in his pocket.

Women. On a cold winter's night.

Aten knows many spells and peculiar conjurings, but the ones listed here are the few that are officially recognised by the Mage's Guild.

Thaumaturgy. A cantrip innate to any pure-bred tiefling, and a beacon of trickery. With little effort, Aten can summon a minor wonder, resulting in a strange array of effects. Aten may decide to amplify his voice, or cause a flame to flicker and change colour. Doors may fly open and slam shut by their own accord, or a strange sound may be heard from far away. Some have also claimed to witness Aten changing the colour of his own eyes.

Summon Thrall. An incantation is spoken, and a beast may fall under the will and control of Aten. Simple-minded creatures are the easiest of targets, and attempts to subdue a wilful mind often backfires.

Imprisonment. A dark and frightful spell, in which a victim is ensnared and immobilised by various means. Known methods have included spectral chaining, minimus containment, and hedged prison, in which a creature is trapped within a pocket dimension for a moderate amount of time.
