Profile

"It does... 'kill' me to feel this alone... but it's not my first time. Trust me. I'll bring them back and see this to the end."[ patch 4.56 ]

Terotero, often referred to by his shorthand nickname Tero (or sometimes his full name, Terotero Tatayero), is a lalafellin red mage who resides in the realm of Eorzea, and a long time friend of Lalamint.

Terotero, compared to his friend Lalamint, posses more control and is rather straightforward. While the two may still have the same chaotic nature, Terotero is less likely to act on it. He is a tad less social than Lalamint as well, preferring to be on his own rather than with his friends (though he does not outright refuse company). He isn't averse to attempting to mimic his best friend's outgoing personality when given the chance, however.

His independence comes mainly from his history of losing his friends, whether it be by choice or by fate. Lalamint's disappearance was originally what stirred this, and it was one of his more detrimental losses. Although Terotero was happy to see him alive, his fear never went away, and he would soon see many others leave his side—the most damaging being the events of [4.56: A Requiem for Heroes II]. For a while, he felt as if he had no choice but to be alone... Fortunately, Terotero does not treat his self-reliance as a bad thing. He doesn't need to rely on others to do what's to be done. Yet, despite his hesitance to accept when his friends reach out for him, he'll never refuse, because his bonds are still important to him. Deep down, Terotero knows he's not alone.

Thanks to the "Tome of Mint's Collective" and his stronger attunement to magic, Terotero is usually the one solving problems when he can. Unfortunately, he's best friends with Lalamint. So causing problems on purpose is not not likely.

Story

Ever since Terotero joined the Thaumaturges' Guild, he's been trying his best to understand the ins and outs of his own arcane proficiency, and there was no better place to start than there. It wasn't until a few weeks later that he and Lalamint would first run into each other, and from that point on, they were practically brothers.

Soon afterward, they were finally confident enough to take on their first assignment from the Adventurer's Guild, and head into the forays of Sastasha, even though they were part of different parties. Terotero had only assumed that he would run into Lalamint again some other time, but would later find out that Lalamint had gone missing in the midst of his mission. Terotero wanted to see if he could go and find him at all, but the only thing that was known about Lalamint's location was that he was far deep into Sastasha, home to monsters he couldn't handle at all yet. With his regretful hopelessness, he then temporarily resigned from the Adventurer's Guild, and resumed his training in thaumaturgy.

Unfortunately, Terotero would later find out that, despite having the aether to handle such a job, being a Black Mage wasn't entirely for him. He wasn't fond of the idea of teetering on the edge of the Thirteenth; he only wished to follow in his friend's footsteps. It wasn't long before he dropped black magic entirely. Fortunately, the knowledge and skills he obtained never left him. He applied what he learned from black magic to other professions. Discovering an affinity with the land around him instead, he finally left the Thaumaturges' Guild to go be part of the Miner's Guild. His gained proficiency would take him far across the world, and over the next year or so, he would see places outside of Ul'dah he'd thought he'd only dream of seeing.

Eventually, instead of entitling himself to only levequests, Terotero would enlist himself into the retainer system as... well, a retainer. Along with a group of three others, he'd be hired to dole out his services and work out requests from a client named... "Mint Sphere一"
...wait, what?

After what had felt like years, Lalamint had finally reunited with Terotero, although both of them were not adventurers this time around. Terotero's time as a retainer would be the way he finally hears Lalamint's stories一whether it be about his knowledge of black magic as a whole, or his adventures, or even the people he met along the way. Terotero was just as confused as anyone else, but also greatly relieved that his one friend was finally back after being lost for so long. However, because of this, he eventually came to a realization. If someone like Lalamint can just learn all the ins and outs of something as complex as black magic and live, as weak as they were, in the depths of Sastasha... why did he stop adventuring? They had both known each other for so long, enough to the point where they both "knew" they could take on anything that the world threw at them.

Taking some time to think it over, Terotero had finally made his decision. He had informed Lalamint and his other retainers that he would resume his membership at the Adventurer's Guild, and follow the words his best friend always had at heart: "finish what he started." As a sendoff, Lalamint entrusted him with a book he described as "containing all of his adventures and his knowledge." The only problem was... all of the pages were blank. Nothing would be written unless Terotero experiences the world himself, for it would only be through his own adventures that the book would reveal what was hidden.

Since Lalamint knew that Terotero didn't enjoy the responsibilities of being a Black Mage that much, he would tell him about a new type of magic he could study: red magic. Luckily, he already knew a certain crimson duelist he could point him towards, ready to help.

It was there that his side of the story would finally begin...

The "Tome of Mint's Collective"

"I was about to enter the Royal Palace when... all of a sudden, the tome glowed."
"Four words on a single page... 'Beware of splitting headache.' ...what?"

—Tero

The "Tome of Mint's Collective", sometimes referred to as just "the Collective", is a book created by Lalamint that has been aetherically infused and linked to all memories regarding his past adventures. It is a more elaborate modification of "The Unending Journey" specifically made for Terotero, given to him when he decided to go off on his own, containing a Soul of the Red Mage for him to use.

The book covers nearly every major story told within A Realm Reborn up to Shadowbringers (including patches, job questlines, trial questlines, and raid sets, but excluding relic weapon questlines (specifically Eureka and Bozja) and other questlines), and only the main story of Endwalker, excluding everything from Newfound Adventure onward.

All of the pages are blank at first, as everything written is hidden. The only way to display the entries left inside was for Terotero to go on his own adventures—or, as Lalamint puts it, "experience his own story." The entries vary in length depending on the subject matter. Sometimes, they'll reveal memories all at once; other times, they'll give vague hints or warnings. On rare occasions, the book will project and replay events from Lalamint's perspective around Terotero in the same fashion as the Echo (minus the unconsciousness). Regardless of what the entries reveal, they are almost always written as if the book—and, in turn, Lalamint—was communicating with Terotero.

The book has been the main reason as to why Terotero has shown more proficiency and prescience going through the same adventures Lalamint did in his past.
