Keshet

Young Adult ✦ Female ✦ Fennekeet

"I can see a rainbow in your tears as they fall on down"

Personality

Keshet appears to have no more cognitive abilities than wild animals, but has shown social awareness and self-preservation. She is very skittish and agitated by others being around, showing fear and apprehension. Keshet, once shown that anyone is not a threat, very slowly starts to come around. She is able to make a wide range of vocalisations; whining or barking when scared, making soft cooing noises when happy or curious, as well as singing or ‘talking’ with a variety of chirps and squeaks. Keshet is at her happiest enjoying the sunshine, playfully chasing insects or preening her feathered coat. She takes more to bathing in water than to rolling in sand. Although initially cautious of most things, Keshet works well in a small group environment.

Appearance

Keshet appears to be related to Fennec Foxes; she is small, has a soft pointed snout and wide ears. She has a long, fluffy tail that had feathers tied around the base. Her coat is comprised of three different shades of grey-brown, and has teal coloured eyes, nose and paw pads. The most identifiable feature, is the bird-coat that is draped over her head and across the front half of her body. The feathers are a dark navy blue, graduating to near black in places. She has numerous iridescent feathers in this coat, and it looks similar to a Nicobar Pigeon.

Other Info

Her call is Ke-Ke-Ke, so other Fennekeets call her Ke. Her tail never grew out past a nub, which is why it is hidden. She is very offended if her tail feathers are touched. It is unclear as to whether Keshet does actually possess wings on her coat, or if she simply prefers to stay on the ground and climb. Her attention is easily focused on bright colours or fast moving creatures.

Friends: Making ‘friends’ isn’t something Keshet understands, but she is able to comprehend who to spend time around and who is a threat.

Species

Fennekeets are a fox-like species that possess a coat relating to a specific and unique bird. There are no two ‘keets that are the same, only similarities as seen in Macaw-coated Fennekeets. Many of them have a mix of vocalisations between that of a fox and a bird, favouring one or the other on personal preference alone. There are some that can mimic actual speech.

Coat

There is no ‘keet with a coat quite like Keshet. All Fennekeets have unique bird coats and body markings. Unlike a lot of other Fennekeets, Keshet is also grounded. Her coat does not have any visible wings. The iridescence is always present; faint in low light and becoming more visible the brighter the light is.

Name

Keshet means ‘rainbow’ in Hebrew. Although, in keeping with the species’ background and cognitive reasoning, she has a specific call that she answers to. Keshet is also able to tell the difference between being tricked or mistaking another creature trying to get her attention.
