After the death of the deity that made AJ, he was picked up by the vampiric gangs that roam the outsides of the safe cities. Despite his weak stature and fearful demeanor, he's considered as much of a member of his group as anyone else and is helping the hunt on the the the.
AJ has always been considered somewhat of a scaredy-cat. He has a fear of death, something rare among his group, which causes him to be scared of most things (such as the magic he needs to survive). He also has intense social anxiety, causing him to clam up around people he doesn't know and try to avoid any and all confrontation possible.
By himself, though, AJ is an extremely ambitious person. His curious hunger is enough to break existing rules and act against authority, something his normal demeanor doesn't really give off.
