The nervous and clumsy Zircon who has some of the Empire's worst luck when it comes to the gem he’s supposed to be working with. Zircons often work in pairs and Monochrome is no different, the only problem is that he’s been through about 3 different Zircons as his co-worker before ending up working with his current co-worker. First there was Strawberry Jam Zircon who mysteriously vanished, followed by Pink Zircon who followed the same fate. The Empire’s last hope for assigning Monochrome to work with someone was Pale Red Wine Zircon, who also vanished, then they simply gave up. The Empire ended up shoving Monochrome into the hands of White Wine Sapphire, placing him as the co-worker to Ebony Librarian Zircon who he knows doesn’t like him. To say the least, Monochrome isn’t very happy in his current position within the Empire’s largest library.

- He was once a pretty good defense lawyer, but after his first co-worker vanished it all went downhill from there. He now works as a library aide with Ebony and he’s really bad at it.
- He often confides in Lemon Laced Zircon in secret, the two are fairly close friends and Monochrome is trying to work out a defense case for Lemon.
- Monochrome's original fate was actually for him to be White Snowy Diamond’s personal Zircon, he doesn’t know what went wrong for him to lose that fate.
- He tries to put up a face of confidence but it often fails the moment he falls down, which is a lot. Air is his worst enemy, he swears to the Diamonds some sort of air spirit is out to get him.
