According to uncovered scripts, Shades was a sleepy cat who lived in a neighborhood adjacent to Home. Loves to sing and dance! Strangely we only see her during the daytime though she's a night owl.... 

Shades was a character who occasionally appeared on the show, and her purpose was to show how important it was to get a good nights rest!  She was usually seen dressed in her regular outfit, but sometimes she'd wear a pair of pajamas.
