About

Ephraim grew up alone with his mother Josephine. His father, the man responsible for his elf blood, had been divorced by Josephine a few years after Ephraims birth due to his tendancies for violence and being belligerently drunk. She knew raising her son on her own would be difficult but presumed that it would be a better childhood for him. The homelife was rough, Josephine did not make very much money and because of it the two were poor and often bumped heads regarding interests and priorities. The two often got into fights and Ephraim at his young and teenage years often regarded her as hating him, though had Josephine knew this it would've broken her heart. Ephraim knew of his dad from what his mother told him occasionally, he knew him to be a drunk moron, but he wondered if life wouldve been better with him around though this was only ever a distant thought until one day his father showed up asking about his son and Josephine.

Josephine was very protecting of Ephraim at that point and did not wish for him to see her son, fearful that he would be a bad influence though at the same time she feared that he would prefer his father. Ephraim protested and got to meet his father and at first got along with him super well much to the horror of his mother. This changed drastically though the night Ephraim got to meet the 'real' version of his father that his mother so deeply feared and wished to keep away from her son.

It happened so quickly, it was a few drinks in good fun- Ephraim was old enough at this point. Ephraim didn't really like the taste yet of alcohol so he had only one or two in celebration with his father, but before he knew it his father was a drunken mess. He tried to calm him down with the drinking but he insisted and kept insisting until he was well beyond what he shouldve had. Ephraim attempted to stop him by taking the bottle but his father responded violently and launched into a screaming fit of vocal slurring and actual slurs. Josephine was stirred from her chambers and barged into the room the two had been drinking in, getting between the two and yelling at him warning Ephraim this is exactly what she feared. For the first time Ephraim fully understood his mothers warnings. The two yelled for a long while, surely waking up any neighbors but the fight wasnt desculating, in fact it was getting worse and Ephraim watched in terror unable to really do anything about it. Eventually his father reached for the bottle and slammed it into Josephine with brutal and unkempt strength only a stumbling furiour drunkman could summon. The sight of blood trickling down Josephines forehead after she collapsed mustve sobered the man a little, as he then stumbled out of the home fleeing into the night. In a panic Ephraim tried to rouse his mother awake but he quickly realized that she was certainly dying. Ephraim seeing his mothers sacrifice of herself for his protection made him understand something, that she truly had loved him this entire time, despite the fights, despite it all, she really was just looking out for him.

Somehow in that moment something strange happens, Josephines spirit manifests above her lifeless body though she is twisted in some regard. Ephraim can feel her anger physically in the room and its overwhelming. He didn't know much about ghosts but he did know that often they could become twisted and corrupted if they died feeling strong emotions. As he watched her, stunned and afraid to move, her body contorted and she yelled with a hauntingly fearful yell- like a banshee. Ephraim knew he couldn't let this continue, his inactivity could result in something awful if he just kept watching, she would become something grotesque- his own mother who was just trying to protect him from his dangerously drunk father. Ephraim made a choice; to bind his own mother as a phantom eidolon in order to half her corruption. He'd been training to become a summoner himself, though he was hoping to find some sort of cool monster or creature to befriend but now he had no choice.

There was a flash and an strang feeling inside Ephraim, but when the smoke cleared Josephine was gone which he believes to mean, in tandem with his odd internal feeling, meant he had suceeded. He manifested her beside himself and she looked like she always had more or less, though obviously bearing the general traits of a spirit. She floated just above the ground, was slightly transluscent, and he clothes and hair always moved as if there was a gentle breeze. He attempted to talk to her though she seemed, off in that regard. She did not remember him, his name, or any specifics of her life. She did remember one thing; she was looking for her son. At the sudden remembrance of him, she burst into tears despite Ephraim insisting he way right there. He realized rather quickly that she had a sort of dementia. Ephraim wanted to find a way to appease her but he wasnt sure what to do since his pressence alone wasnt working. Instead, he forged a relationship with her as her friend rather than her own son, though it hurt him greatly to hear her mourn and cry for him in her moments of clarity.

At first it felt very strange to him, as a summoner having an eidolon who was formally his mother though now that she was a phantom she was physically much more powerful. He kept the secret of her identity away from anyone who would ask, as he felt it was too much to entrust to others. He made his way to the Pathfinder lodge in Absalom to seek help in finding a way to appease his mother, or perhaps atleast return her memories to her, though he knew this meant having to outright join the society. Ephraim believed that the societies resources and expertise may offer a potential solution for his mother's tormented existence though his mission in that regard was somewhat clandestine. Ephraim had to learn to fight alongside her, and found that her pressence within combat was terrifying, and that the overwhelming rage he had felt when she manifested had not simply disapeared. While remembering her missing son could sometimes fling her into a fit of tears and crying, it could just as easily whip her into a flurry of violence against those she accused of having 'stolen him' from her. He hair would become long and animated, capable of grappling people, his voice was loud and painful to hear with her wails, and her body would become ragged like a hags nearly. It took Ephraim a little while to learn how to console her, but these sudden outbursts of violence made him truly realize this version of his mother he had saved was not a manifestation of her loving form, but instead of her loathing hatred for his father. It made him feel even more guilty that this entire accident had been his fault, but that drove him even more into the understanding that it was now his duty to fix it, to set his own mothers spirit free or atleast return her memories to her.
