Art was always a troubled child, wary of the place and people who created him and cared for him. He managed to keep this unnoticed and thus untreated, his paranoia and anger festering each year. He's pretty much always known he wants to stop the creation of Companions, despite being one himself, but doesn't quite seem to have a solid plan how to accomplish that. It's very reminiscent of a teenager wanting to rebel against his parents, but this runs much deeper and is a core part of Art's personality. While trying to take down the creation of Companions it's still those whom he seeks out as allies, not trusting humans at all. He doesn't actually hate Companions, he distrusts the motives and people behind their creation. Art does believe there is a lot wrong with Companions, but he blames AAA and humanity in general for that. The way the world has been responding to Companions has only served to escalate that further. He is focused on getting out into the world and finding out what options are already out there. Art isn't much of a joiner, so it's unlikely he'll work for someone else's cause, but it might serve as inspiration and help him come up with his own plan. He's also trying to find others who already share his views or can be manipulated into believing the same and for those that can do his dirty work for him. His first and biggest success is Celine, who seems hopelessly devoted to him. Try as he might he is not exactly immune to her either and has grown to have feelings for her in his own twisted messed up way.
