Serena

A strong, funny, and protective boy who is a true momma’s boy, he is frequently found following his mother around Bilgewater until joining The Perseverance as a greenhand. He clings to his family, blood or not, with undying loyalty. Always looking for validation from the ship’s crew, specifically his godmother and Captain of The Perseverance, Selkie.

One of the strongest and positive role models in Serena’s life is The Selkie. Serena loves her dearly, and would follow wherever her Captain went, even to the end of the world. She named her only child in honor of her, and entitled Selkie his godmother. Though she would rarely admit it out loud, Selkie has become a mother figure to her and looks to her for guidance and advice.

(WIP) Serena looks up to Boros both figuratively and literally, their relationship may not be as strong as hers and Selkie’s, but she does respect him as the first mate and as a person in general. She was affectionately nicknamed “mouse,” by him because, despite her size, she was brave and smart. Though willing to spar with him for fun, she is more than aware and ready to lose. She finds the exercise fun and a learning experience in case she ever needs to protect herself or one of the crew.

(WIP) Despite being unable to read or write, Jag is a loveable goofball, and Serena enjoys his company. He treats her well, and sometimes she catches herself almost seeing him as a brother. He’s the second mate on The Perseverance and helped her learn the ropes along with the other greenhands when she first arrived. Sometimes she gets annoyed when he won’t finish her meals or gives it to someone else, but the feelings never last long as he usually means well. They’ve worked together when it comes to food prep, appreciating it when he helps butcher or skins the animals.

Aissatou, more commonly called Aissa, was fourteen when Serena first met her, quickly reminding her of her younger sister. Something that attributed to her looking out for Aissa if the mates or Selkie were busy. Their bond grew more after Serena was promoted to cook and Aissa found she was pregnant with her first child, Mikiyo. She stuck by her side and did her best to assist in making the pregnancy easy, even if that meant just sitting and holding her hand. Serena was present while she gave birth to both Mikiyo and Ashikaga.

Serena is fond of Mikiyo, seeing him as family and her nephew. Her list of nicknames for him is long, but her love for him is larger. She’d do a lot to defend and protect him and will always be a listening ear for him. Some of her happiest moments were visiting him and seeing him in her galley at an ungodly hour getting a snack. She’s proud of the man he’s growing to be despite what he’s gone through and tries to let him know she’ll always be in his corner to support him.

Almost as feral as her son Ronan, Ashikaga, or Ashi, made her way into Serena’s heart. Though not as wild as her niece, she loves her all the same, not minding her being in the galley to help in meal prep, even if it was just peeling potatoes. Serena is always willing to be a listening ear to her, softly hold, or distract her if needed. She’s proud of the woman she’s growing up to be; despite everything she’s been through and witnessed, Serena will always be there to support her.

(WIP) The sweet medic onboard The Perseverance, Serena, makes her way there whenever she feels ill, usually without badgering from the crew. She’s fond of the soft lady and loves that they’re both on the shorter side, always willing to spend time with her and chat about life. Farrah has a collection of pictures and albums she likes to go through sometimes, sharing stories or just enjoying the trip down memory lane.

Once loved and embraced by the crew despite his sporadic rude behavior and sometimes standoffish behavior, it was assumed that he had an inhuman past, just needing a group and care to turn things around. He was affectionately nicknamed “Sunny” by Serena, and taken under Selkie’s wing. She taught him how to be not just a good captain but a skilled one and hopefully some morals along the way. He quickly broke all trust after his years of abuse on Miki became apparent after an attempt on his life. Miki’s left arm was severed after Sol snapped in a jealous rage; he was taken into custody but was able to escape by a lifeboat after knocking Serena unconscious, further cementing that the Sol they thought they knew was not his true colors. Though misguided and damaged from his past, he still chooses to do bad things and enjoys doing them.
