Growing up wasn't easy. She had her brother, of course, but Cardinal was always busy. He was busy for a good reason, hunting for the both of them, but she was still lonely. She hated being lonely. On top of that, Cardinal wasn't the best hunter. He barely brought back enough food for the both of them, and would only bring back one fish, cod. As much as he insisted he wasn't hungry, Dandelion could tell by his skinny, frail body, that he had been starving himself.

One day, when Dandelion was old enough to hunt with her brother, they spotted something on the other side of the river. It smelled like something that had never reached her nose before, something sweet but dusty. Whatever she had smelled spotted them, and quickly jolted it's head to stare at them. It turned it's body around, and Dandelion got a better look at what was really in front of her.

It was a tall, sleek tom, with a brown rosette marking on top of his white legs. Cardinal, ready to pick up Dandelion and flee, gathered enough courage to speak. They exchanged words, and the strange tom spoke of a group of loners, called "The Gales."
