The Retrostatic's Sweetheart
The Operator is a supporting character in The Retrostatic. They are an anthropomorphic telephone furry. They live in a dimension/world that exists within technology and radio signals, in which they are a celebrity. They are gracious and obliging.
They are known as The Retrostatic's Sweetheart, because a large part of their image is being a sex symbol. The level and nature of their celebrity is akin to being an idol. In addition to this, they also work multiple jobs, most of them related to telephone operation, sex work, or both. They have positive opinions of their jobs and do them because they like them.
Physical Description
Detailed description
The Operator is an anthropomorphic telephone furry. They have a humanoid body, with legs that widen into feet shaped like high heels, and a long tapered tail. They also have two extra pairs of hands not attached to their body, which they are in full control of. These hands have a slightly greater range of motion than the hands attached to arms have. They have a coinslot on the left side of their chest, a spiral cord on the back of their head, and their face consists solely of a rotary dial, which is their eye. They are covered in short, almost velvety fur. In their standard form, they are red, and they wear a mid-blue neckerchief tied tight around their neck.
Style
They sometimes dress up in other outfits. They lean toward feminine styles, but they don't let that limit them. They'll wear anything from "cute and flirty" to "classy and put-together" to "elegant and sexy" to "completely impractical but hot."
Shape-shifting
The dial on their face can be used to "dial up" different personas. The different personas have slightly different appearances and personalities. The extent of what can physically change about them is limited; they cannot transform into other objects or creatures, nor drastically change their size. Some of the things they can change include fur color, fur length, body proportions, height, weight, and other small details. The transformation also encompasses clothing and other accessories. A full list of personas can be found in a later tab.
Personality
The Operator is very indulgent, both for themself and for others. They love to live lavishly, but they also love to be helpful and friendly to those around them. They quite enjoy menial jobs and customer service as a way to have a positive impact. They may be impish, cheeky, or even smug at times, but it's usually in a playful way, and they'll back down if it goes too far. The same goes for their egotistical streak - though they have a high sense of self-worth and shameless confidence, they don't use this to tear others down. Even so, they're not exactly humble - they know they're hot (both in terms of looks and trending topics) and they love to show off. They're also a huge flirt, almost recreationally.
They are very satisfied with their life. Most of their life goals are simply continuing to do what they do - save for one. They are a romantic, and hope one day to have a steady partner who loves them. This is a long-term goal, not something they are hard-pressed to make happen immediately.

Facial Dial
Their dial is fully functional, and in addition to conjuring their personas, it can also be used to make phone calls.
Offscreen Receiver
They can pull telephone receivers from offscreen, leaving the cord trailing out of sight. If you look in that direction, the cord will be infinitely stretching off into the horizon.
Bodily Awareness
Part of being a shape-shifter in the way they are is having extreme bodily awareness and control. This goes beyond just knowing exactly where they start and end - it extends to having control over functions that the average person does not. For example, they can manually control their heartbeat.
Lodging
They live in a penthouse suite that they have decorated with dark pinks and reds, plentiful cushions, and draping fabric.

Each of their personas was purposefully developed. It is not necessarily difficult, but it does take a conscious effort.

Their personas include: standard (red with blue neckerchief), alternate standards (beige with more hips or black with more shoulders, red neckerchief; standard personality), diva (hot pink with pink fur boa and cigarette holder, taller, more pronounced figure; more dramatic, sultry, and high-maintenance; also uses she/her), pup (warm brown with black and red pup mask (can flip either way using cartoon logic); more doglike and less talkative), uniformed worker (red with blue neckerchief, jacket, cap, and red pants and shoes, all with gold detailing; less seductive and more decorus, and cordially professional), tied up (black with a bondage harness; more needy), boy crazy tween (hot pink with striped legs, pigtails and bangs, and teal leopard print fringed scarf; more playful and cutesy; also uses she/her; is still an adult that description is just to get the vibe across), beefcake (brown, extra arm and chest hair, taller, broader chest; more traditionally masculine; also uses he/him), baseball player (beige with black and white striped baseball uniform; a little sportier, but can be distant or almost shell-shocked), devil (red with devil horns and black bodysuit, boots, and choker, plump figure including breasts; more playful and teasing), swimsuit (orange with bikini; more playful), tentacles (dark green with tentacles, notably tentacle tail, fat; more serious), leather (dark gray-brown with leather cap, vest, chaps, gloves, and whip, fat; more devious), angel (beige with halo and hands forming wings, slightly chubby; this one actually wasn't developed by them and instead happens when they are used as a vessel for divine communication).

The Operator quite likes loverboy, and is a consistent ally to him. There is also a mutual attraction, though The Operator is more deeply infatuated, and neither are (seriously) acting on it, due in part to loverboy's complicated attachment to 1-800-CASH-NOW.
1-800-CASH-NOW
[ Coworker / Contemporary ]
1-800-CASH-NOW is another high-profile figure, so they often cross paths. They occasionally collaborate, especially when 1-800- is doing anything involving telephones on its show, such as taking call-ins. After a certain event, their relationship goes south, with The Operator intent on exposing 1-800- but being hindered by confusion and paranoia.

Spoilers for the ending (as if I'll ever actually get around to writing this lol)
After getting their dial messed with on 1-800-'s show, they start losing their grip on reality and their control over which persona comes out. They are intent on exposing the truth about 1-800-, and become a bit of a conspiracy theorist and can't tell what's real any more. Telephones ringing becomes a trigger to them and they start hearing them when there are none. MAJOR SPOILERS and warning for self-inflicted harm - they start to believe there is a telephone receiver inside of them, largely due to the cord on the back of their head, and in a fit of desperation commits (unintentional) suicide while trying to cut it out. Haven't decided whether there actually is one or not yet.
