- majority of diet is plants, mainly tough grasses and aquatic plants. is an opportunistic carnivore

- good swimmer, likes lounging about in mud (particularly on hot days)

- pretty serious but only aggressive when provoked, leave them alone and you'll be fine

- loosely territorial; they usually have a preferred area and chase out other members of the same species, but don't have an issue with other species
