As is a trait of his species, Baron's inner organs can slightly shift or rewire themselves in the event of damage, increasing his chances of survival. This includes the brain, allowing him to potentially survive even a shot to the head.

 FACTS

  • Baron is the captain of the Antecedent, a small space station that has been converted into a pirating warship. His crew of ~200 are original residents of the space station, which he'd overseen years before.
  • He took a shot to the face, severely damaging his features, but he survived the wound. He wears a silver plate over his face now, to protect himself but also to hide the scars.

BACKGROUND

The Antecedent was once Entity Station, a small space station of about 500-600 residents, which served as a minor depot in remote space. It was a station of families, overseen by Baron Graez, who was appointed by the coalition of station habitation. However, it was a grueling position that paid poorly, and Baron sought an easy solution. After making a minor deal with the wrong man, things went wrong. Offering to use the station as a transfer point for illegal goods, Baron's contact, an influential political criminal by name of Odor, was skimped on his goods by the other party. Odor brutally murdered the entire crew right in the middle of the station, but rather than leaving it at that, decided that the entire station was a witness needing silencing. Odor's men opened fire on innocent civilians, then overtook the crew headquarters so as to shut down life support. In the mayhem, and an effort to stop Odor, Baron was shot in the head, left for dead along with the rest of the station as Odor and his people left.

Somehow, Baron managed to drag himself to engineering, where he was able to reactivate life support at the last moment. Most of the residents survived, but unfortunately their most prone--primarily children--were not able to survive the prolonged loss of life support. When Baron awoke in the medic bay days later, he was told that they'd lost almost 200 of their people, mostly children. It was a period of grieving and anger. The Entity attempted to reach out to intergalactic authorities for help, but it would seem everyone was either in Odor's pocket, or too afraid to act against him. Many of Entity's remaining civilians left, but others stayed behind, loyal to one another, and to Baron who had saved their lives. As Baron fixated on the need for revenge against Odor, those civilians who stayed behind joined the cause.

The hulking, aged station was slowly converted into a distance-ready ship, and the crew spent over a year ambushing and robbing other ships and stations of gear and tools needed to augment the Entity into a warship, the Antecedent. Outfitted with weaponry, fighter jets, and warp capability, they would be ready to take on Odor.
