Aleksei Turgenev

Aleksei Turgenev, also known as Alyosha, is a man of strong convictions and and an even stronger dedication to his duties as a field-marshal in the new St. Petrograd army. He was awarded the prestigious title by Praskovya Ivanova; however, the circumstances surrounding his promotion are something he would rather forget. Aleksei carries the weight of his experiences in the army as something to never be told. Despite the challenges he faces in balancing his morals and his job, Aleksei is a devoted and capable leader, respected by his fellow soldiers and commanders alike, although Aleksei often finds himself pouring all of his energy into his duties to stop himself from thinking about the memories of his previous actions.

Aleksei's marriage to Ninotchka is one of mutual respect and understanding - their relationship was arranged, although not forced, and while there is no sign of romantic love between them, they have built a strong bond together based on shared trust and loyalty. Aleksei supports Ninotchka's aspirations as a politician, is proud of her achievements as a prophet, and is happy to see her engaged in a romantic relationship outwith their marriage.

However, despite his acceptance of their open relationship, Aleksei harbors legitimate concerns about Ninotchka's affair with Dariya, a youthful and fliratious dancer whom his wife met at a local bar. While he recognizes and appreciates the love between the two women, he fears that their relationship may end in heartbreak on both sides due to Dariya's marriage to a wealthy businessman who is able to fund her exorbitant lifestyle.
