Dryrard Gryphon

"That's not ALL that they've been keeping from you..."

Dryrard or "Dryr" if a griffin antagonist from the series Quest For Camelot, a cartoon released in the 1990's. Instead of being part of the main plot he has a separate story that is more interactive with the Griffins' homelands. Dryr is as ruthless and ravenous as Rupers Griffin. He currently resides in the forbidden forest (valley of thorns) and is seeking an opportunity to escape to a better location. The dragons have been sworn enemies against the Griffins and either species will actively hunt eachother down, his only options are to head for the kingdom if not travel to the outerlands.

Background

Dryr, known as "The Dryrard Griffin" comes from a land far spanning the edge of Camelot called "The Dryrard". These outer reaches of land are constantly under seige by rouges, witches, and fantasy creatures alike. Dryrard is considered to also be the origins from which all the griffins came from, and it's dagger like mountain ranges serve as a sufficient roost. Since they are usually solidary creatures and rarely hunt together you will not likely find two Griffs being frinedly to eachother. Yes, even in their homeland it is neck to tallons.

Dryr was not hatched in Dryrard. He was hatched in dragon territory, where unknowingly his egg was placed in a dragon's roost. Upon hatching there several dragons were prepared to kill him in more ways than one. Between the molten lava pits and burning fire he hardly escaped his demise. Dryr was left flightless, his feathers were completely singed. These events were so devistating for the young Griffin that it changed his perspective on the world forever. It is unclear what truly happened in this situation but he speculates that someone from Dryrard intentionally placed his egg there...he has held a grudge for that reason and will continue to search until he finds the true story of his birth. Like his birthright, he wants whoever did such acts to be slain. Griffins are very malevolent motivated creatures. Many awful and draining events occoured after this and growing up that would cause him to do what he did next.

When he returned to his origin lands he became worthy of his title, by slaining five Griffins in his wake. The cold blooded acts of the killings were so fierce that word spread and others began to revere him. He smashed several of the next generation's eggs. It's clear: He was pissed. During this time a rare commune of Griffins formed to keep eye on him. This word even reached the kingdom and townspeople.
