Despite everything, they are kind.

Riddle often comes across as air headed and naive due to their whimsical nature, positive attitude, and oddly vacant demeanor. Their readiness to help others often comes as a detriment to their own schedule— they’re always running late for something or staying up till the wee hours of morning to finish the overwhelming amount of tasks they took on. Regardless of what it costs, seeing others smile as a result of their handiwork is all that Riddle needs to justify their busy lifestyle.

But there’s something off about Riddle. You see it in their eyes, and you realize that, though the warmth in their voice is genuine, their gaze is hollow. It’s as if they’re a shell— an empty vessel relearning what it means to be alive.

HISTORY

Born in Mountain’s Rest, a small village nestled at the foot of the mountains, Riddle’s early years were spent in relative harmony. The woods, however, are rife with danger, and no peace lasts forever. Long had Mountain’s Rest been subject to disappearances blamed on the neighboring Pokemon. Then, when Riddle was almost 12 years old, the village fell. Something in the forest stirred the Pokemon into a frenzy, causing them to stampede frantically through the town. Riddle’s mother managed to hide them away in the basement and ensured their safety, but she was gone by the time help arrived.

A kind-faced man and his Ursaring found Riddle in their hiding spot, and though it took some coaxing, he was able to get the child to come with him after promising them food and a place to stay. The man’s name was Tobias Finch, and he was part of a more… radical offshoot of the Church of Balance. In reality, they were nothing more than a cult whose worship of Yveltal led them to find revelry in death. Their funerals were celebrations filled with music and dancing and joy, but their ceremonies— their ceremonies were glorified bloodsport. It was an honor to partake. At least, Finch said it was.

During their time in the order, Riddle spent most of their time hiding away from the other members and feeding the group’s captured Pokémon. There was a Gabite who Riddle took a particular liking to, gradually befriending the creature. He liked meatloaf, so that became his name. Meatloaf. Meatloaf and Riddle became a team. They protected each other until the day came that the Corviknights found and dismantled the cult. Riddle was rescued by a Knight named Pheo, and they took Meatloaf with them.

Riddle went through rehabilitation (getting used to socializing, for one) and joined up with the Knights shortly thereafter, eager to do good in the world. Now a Squire, they journey the Armonia region in the hopes that they can one day join the Knights’ ranks and follow in their heroes’ footsteps.
