Princess

(Animal Neglect Warning)

Princess "Sissy" Campbell was born in a scrapyard in 2001. She spent the early months of her life in squalor, the neglect being disguised as "training" for her role as the property's guard dog. 

May 2001:
Dallas saw her for the first time when going to procure parts for his own vehicle. He immediately brought up a plan to try and steal her away, his boyfriend at the time rejected it. Levi wasn’t a big fan of dogs. Dallas slept on it for a couple weeks, looking for the puppy every time he passed the yard. While he made dinner that night he absolutely could not stop thinking about her. The way her skin hugged her bones, the malicious cuts on her face. Poor thing doesn't deserve that!

That night he packed a bag with some tools, stopped by the drive in to grab some beef patties and drove to the scrapyard. He waited for the lights to go out for the night. Once he saw the owner drive away he snuck towards the fence. Shocked by his sudden appearance she started snarling, and barking ferociously at him, all until he tossed the beef patties over the fence. She followed them closer and closer to the edge of the fence until she met him face to face at the chain line, now cautiously eating out of his hand. He made sure to move as slow as he could, pulling out wire cutters from his bag and snipping at the chain link fencing.  

He baits her to his car with what was left of her fast food feast and they drove back to his trailer. He sets out water for her and realizes he’ll have to pick up dog food in the morning. When it was bedtime he set out an old comforter for her on his bedroom floor. When he woke up in the morning he finds her snoring on the foot of his bed.

2001 Continued:
Dallas’ boyfriend Levi shares no love for Princess, he's vocally annoyed that he’d gone through and adopted the mutt. Levi tries to talk him out of keeping her multiple times stating she’s probably sick or that Dallas had no clue what he was doing due to her being his first pet. Dallas relented and kept her. Levi never let her sleep on Dally’s bed or the couch when he was staying over, insisting she sleeps in her kennel. Though she obviously wasn’t to blame, she was the subject of many arguments between them. During their fights she would stand behind Dallas and bark at Levi.

September 2002:
(Animal abuse warning)
Levi and Dallas are in the middle of a crossroads fight.

Levi has finally found a contract music gig, the only catch is that they’d have to pick up and move to Tennessee. Dallas argues that he can’t afford to just pick up and leave. Levi argues that he’s being selfish and that something like this only comes up “once in a lifetime”. As the fight escalates Levi grabs Dallas by the throat, bringing them down to his face to scream at him. Princess finally intervenes. She jumps up and sinks her teeth into Levi’s arm, yanking them both to the floor. Dallas gasps for air while Levi struggles with Princess on the floor. He kicks her away from him, sending her sliding across the floor. He screams obscenities at her while telling Dally to drive him to the ER. 

After dropping him off the ER, he goes back to his trailer. He follows the blood droplets across the hardwood and down into the carpet. He finds Sissy cowering at the back of her kennel. He puts his hand in there, letting her sniff it at her own pace. She whines and wags her tail timidly and he assures her it's okay, he’s not coming back. He just wants to get her cleaned up, he just wants to get everything cleaned up. He promises that Levi won't ever set foot in her house again.
