Theodan is a blacksmith newly discovering the art(ifice) of imbuing magic into his creations. He spends all his time in his forge, tinkering about, often losing time to his frantic need to create. After a long-enduring tension between Theo and his wife (Orinna Briggs, 38, Elvish) about him 'working too much', they have separated and formally divorced.
She has moved away from Wroat to Fairhaven, taking their 12 yo daughter (Isa, tiefling) with her in search of a 'better life' for the both of them. It was a sad but amicable split, in which Theoban accepted his lot, staying in the apartment they'd shared in Wroat with the memories of his broken family.
However, after about a year in Wroat alone, he is feeling restless and seeks something more. He's looking for work somewhere else, doing something else perhaps, wanting something that might make him feel alive again in this mid-life crisis.

Theo is a tall man who takes up a doorway. He's build like he's worked the forge his whole life because he *has*. When he was younger, he visited a wizard to have his outward appearance manipulated to better relate to his inner soul- ie. he's fucing trans, thanks. He's missing a leg and builds his own prosthetics that he upgrades over time, but doesn't like to talk about how that came about. His hair is an unruly mane of fat curls that, when left alone, he lets grow long and fall around his shoulder. Often he pulls this back into his scarf to keep safe around the forge or on deck, but when it's set free- Big man, big belly, big hair, big heart.
- Magical Tinkering 1st lvl
Imbue a Tiny nonmagical object with a magical property of your choice: 5ft radius light, up to 6sec long recorded message, emoits and order, nonverbal sound, static visual effect of up to 25 words of test. You can affect a maximum of 2 objects at a time.
- Infuse Item 1st lvl
Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch up to 3 nonmagical objects, imbuing each of them with one of your artificer infusions, turning it into a magic item. You can attune yourself to the item the instant you infuse it, or you can forgo attunement so that someone else can attune to the item. Your infusion remains in an item indefinitely, but when you die, the infusion vanishes after 2 days. The infusion also vanishes if you give up your knowledge of the infusion or you exceed your maximum number of infusions.
- The Right Tool for the Job 3rd lvl
With Thieves' tools or artisan's tools in hand, you can magically create one set of artisan's tools in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you. This creation requires 1 hour of uninterrupted work, which can coincide with a short or long rest. Though the product of magic, the tools are nonmagical and they vanish when you use this feature again.
- Steel Defender 3rd lvl
You have creasted a Steel Defender that obeys your commands. In combat, the steel defender shares you initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use it's reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the dodge action. if you expend your bonus action, you can command it to take an action from it's stat block or some other action.
- Battle Ready 3rd Lvl
You gain proficiency with martial weapons and when you attack with a magic weapon, you can use your Int modifier, instead of your Stg or Dex mod for the attack and damage rolls.
- Battle Smith Spells 3rd lvl
You always have certain spells prepared after you reach a particular leve in this class, based on the battle smith table.
- Tool Proficiency 5th lvl
You gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you're already proficient, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice: Alchemist's Supplies.
