CLOVER
ABOUT
"I can't stop now- I still need to make everyone smile!"
Clover is a street performer and entertainer from the region of Paldea. Despite being raised in an orphanage for a portion of her childhood, Clover was given the opportunity to find her calling through exploring the region, due to the Academy's Treasure Hunt program. Through ups and downs, highs and lows, Clover has cemented her place in the world by always staying true to herself, something she says she owes to her friends/found family.
Clover isn't exactly academically gifted, despite attending the academy for nearly a decade. However, what she lacks in book smarts she makes up for in street smarts and emotional intelligence. She's loud and boisterous, bringing optimism with her wherever she goes, with the intent of making everyone around her happy as well. Behind her energetic and cheerful walls, she's actually a bit more self-conscious and a people pleaser. Her personality has gotten her in situations that have almost cost her life, and as such left her with a good deal of trauma.
DESIGN
- Clover's face scar is a direct result of the incident in Area Zero. The only reason she wasn't permanantly blinded was because of a blessing spell given to her in secrecy.
- After the events on the Indigo Disc DLC, the scar becomes crystalied due to exposure to raw Terastal energy.
- Clover adds a lot of bells to her outfit due to the love of their sound. It however means she has a hard time sneaking around.
- Tufts at top of head aren't actually ears, nobody knows how they always look that way.
BACKGROUND
EARLY LIFE AND SETTING OFF
Clover was born alongside her twin brother to a pair of international performers. Her parents thought the two were perfect; in fact, they were too perfect for the life of a traveling caravan. Her parents made the tough decision to give the kids up to the orphan system in order for them to have normal lives. Due to a moment of negligence, the social workers accidentally split the twins apart, leaving Clover in a small orphange in Cabo Poco while her brother was sent elsewhere. Clover had a relatively normal upbringing despite this, and enrolled in Paldea's largest academy when she turned 10. Like most of her peers, Clover decided to take the opportunity to explore the region through the treasure hunt program. After setting off, she quickly encountered a mysterious stranger with no memory, quickly befriending the man nonetheless. Her new friendship with him lead her to encounter a peer of hers, who had also meet a stranger with mysterious origins. As such, the four decided to set off to explore the region together.
THE INCIDENT OF AREA ZERO
Clover's evolution to her Meowscarada stage was qicker than most her age, due to her scrappy personality as a teenager she had more strength than one normally did, sparking an evolution overnight. While this meant better control and more opportunities with her abilities, this also lead to her emotional state becoming more and more unstable as time passed. The goals she was once enthuastic about began eating her alive with self-consciousness, leading to a breaking point where she took a (literal) dive down Paldea's giant crater. Upon awakening, she met another strange man, one who preached ideas of a world without pain where she could make everyone happy. Such an idea sounded wonderful to her, and she befriended him, listening to his ideas and thoughts. However, Clover came to realize this man was not what he had seemed, and his ideas of peace would cause more suffering than ever. A confrontation of such lead to a fight, one Clover was massively overpowered in- almost losing her life at his hands, and gaining a scar for the world to see, physically and mentally.
KILL THE KING ONCE, KILL THE KING TWICE
After a rough months-long recovery from both her physical and mental scars, she knew that she couldn't stand by and let the world fall victim to what she did. Alongside her friends, she confronted the man again, taking him out for good. Despite her secretly-known status as the regions hero, the events still cost Clover her mental health, especially when the man's vengeful spirit came back for her and the region, an attack on the new king and the capital. Clover didn't need any hints, she knew exactly who was behind the attack, and who tried to kill her night after night, the ghost type haunting her. She was suddenly forced to confront her old traumas and overcome new ones for the sake of the region again.
THE RIVALRY AND THE FUTURE
Finally putting her past behind her, Clover hopes to have the chance to settle down for good and live a more peaceful life. Especially because being engaged, she wants to experience each day for its own instead of looking at the bigger picture. As such, she dedicated herself more to her passion as a street performer and an entertainer. This however lead to a new issue, not one that affected the lives of everyone around her as well, but instead challenged her new outlook. A young man with limitless potential and a way with words- a shiny Sylveon named Nikolai. Almost instantly, the two became rivals, Nikolai seeking to "eliminate" the competition in the street performer area, starting with Clover. Compared to her experience with Zelenia, who shattered her view of herself and her self worth- Nikolai went straight after her love for performing. As much as Nikolai kicks her when she's already down, Clover refuses to give up, because someone out there still might need her, and she'll do anything to keep the life she fought for.
RELATIONSHIPS
Boba and Clover were childhood "friends" due to being raised in the same orphanage and eventually attending the same academy as well (Clover called herself his friend, Boba would be like "over my dead body"). Despite their childish bickering stemming from their opposite personalities, the two eventually became closer as they grew up together, finding that the other filled the piece of themselves that they were missing. Boba is the self-control to Clover's ambitiousness- whenever Clover has her head too far in the clouds Boba is always able to bring her back down to earth. Similarly, Clover acts as the go-getter who helps Boba open up to the world more and have pride in herself. The two still bicker over silly little things to this day, they've made a promise to each other to never let the other be lonely again. Clover loves her boygirlfriend (actually Fiancee COUGHS).
To Clover, Everett is like an older brother figure- or an older brother-in-law figure, due to being Boba's "adoptive" brother. Everett's laid back and careless personality goes well with Clover's hyperactive and impulsive personality in the worst way, meaning the two often fuel each other's tomfoolery. As an older brother-like figure, Everett seems to find a way to mess with her as well, though the two always have a good laugh about it. Sometimes, he even gives her half-usable advice- so she values him in her life greatly. The only reason he has 4 and a half hearts is because he sucks too :heart emoji: .
Placed together because Clover loves them equally the same! Clover sees the duo as her cool uncle and her wise aunt. Though she's not biologically or legally related to the other two, she still sees them as such due to being older than her and accompanying her for years through her treasure hunt program. She loves how Ko has an even more similar personality to her, and the two always find some way to have fun, even if it's just making the worst monstrosity of a sandwich possible. Mirai on the other hand has helped her through a lot of her mental struggles immediately after the incident in Area Zero. With no mother in her life, Mirai was the one who guided her through a lot of the struggles growing up too.
Though they initially got along like two peas in a pod, seeing Zelenia's true colors with her own eyes shifted her view of him completely. At first, Clover thought she found someone to confide in who could understand her view on the world more than anyone else did, but as she saw just how his view affected others, she connected the pieces together and realized his view of a perfect world would only do more harm than good. Such a discovery almost proved fatal, nearly dying at the hands of Zelenia that day. Zelenia destroyed a piece of her that she'll never be able to get back, and as such she can never forgive him for the pain he's brought onto others and herself.
As the descendant of Zelenia, Clover has always been wary of Cassiopeia since the day she saw his coronation. Fearing that Zelenia's descendent would carry on the gruesome legacy his ancestor left for him, it was no wonder that Cassiopeia and Clover's first face-to-face meeting was an absolute trainwreck. After the attack on Cassiopeia though, the two were able to sit down and see eye to eye with their near-death experiences at the hand of Zelenia, and worked together to put a stop to him for good this time. While the two don't really talk these days, she sometimes recieves his regards, and is sure to send a note of thanks back.
Both in the performance industry, one would assume that the two would work together towards the common goal of making people smile and laugh- this isn't true. The two are actually bitter rivals, with Nikolai seeking to drive Clover out of the street performer scene in order to boost his own popularity and become a bigger and bigger star, no matter who he has to step on. Nikolai has a type advantage and a mental advantage over her, always knowing what to say to degrade her and make her question the path in life she took. Clover sometimes wonders to herself if they could have ever been friends if things were different, but she can't spend the rest of her life with her head down because of Nikolai- and she strives to make sure he knows that.

TRIVIA
- Clover should NEVER be allowed in a kitchen. She can NOT cook do NOT listen to her
- She has temporarily changed her tera type to Dark type and Fairy type on separate occasions. The dark type terastalization caused her hands and arms to stain black.
- At 3am every night you can find her eating a random snack in the kitchen in the dark. Her eyes glow like a cat's do when this happens. Why is she like this.
- She has Autism, ADHD, an Anxiety disorder, and a nice pile of trauma as the cherry on top! :)
