Kandy Katterina was stated to have been born from a litter of 12 calico kittens, all girls, under the care of their mother cat. Within her first appearance, she was said to have gotten her ribbon wand from back in those days, only it was more torn and worn out from playing with it so much. She would however obtain a new one in that same episode from Howdy.

One of her more well known traits was acting as a comedic partner alongside Barnaby as well as a possible love interest. Being a direct parallel to him, her cat instincts and more refined manners often clashed with his more dog-like, goofy personality, which caused them to butt heads from time to time. However, Kandy has been shown to be more positive about Barnaby when he isn't around, even comedically doing things such as gushing about him without thinking and asking Wally to paint her a picture of him.

Kandy's skits would often revolve around movement and getting children and families involved with small and easy workout routines through dancing and singing. A fullbody puppet was often required for crew to get film of the character performing the dance routines, having several people be used to move her at once in these segments. However, she was presented most of the time as a normal hand puppet.
