The Story Thus Far

Generations ago, Yuvan's ancestor wronged a powerful entity disguised as a human woman, accidentally killing the semi-human child she'd come to love as her own. She cursed him and all of his sons to carry the shadow of their guilt with them throughout the rest of their lives. Every son in this family, as a result, has a connection to darkness. Some could only see in the dark, blinded by sunlight, others could drain the light from a room with a thought, or fade into the shadows as if a shadow themself. However, every seventh son of a seventh son within their family must bear the curse in full, their shadow becoming a living thing, with a mind not unlike their own. It's thought that this shadow is the manifestation of the shadow of guilt the woman spoke of when she first gave the curse. Or that's how the story goes, anyways.

Yuvan didn't expect this to be him as a child. In part because he'd not originally been aware he was a son, but also because as far as he was aware, he only had 4 older brothers. Of course, as he began to hide the signs of both his realized gender and the abilities he was beginning to develop, it came to light that his father had cheated on his mother, and he had indeed been the 7th son the entire time. It was around the time of his parents' divorce that his powers would no longer be contained, and his shadow was unlike anything the family had ever seen or heard of before. As a result, his parents and elders saw him as a punishment, a curse within a curse due to his father's infidelity as well as the darkness he was always meant to carry. Of course, what they never knew was that Yuvan's inherent abilities that he was always meant to develop were exacerbated by exposure to the source in their family home in Silver City. Once his parents divorced, he lived with his dad most of the time in Seattle.

The alternative music scene was an out for him, somewhere where not only was he not shunned for the darkness he carried, but he could even begin to embrace it. He began sneaking out to shows and parties, which would often make things worse at home, which made him want to spend more time away. Two of his brothers often supported him in this, not agreeing with their parents and just wanting to make sure he got around safe at these kinds of events when they were in town. It was at one of these shows, where he originally met Maverick. The two became fast friends, bonding over similar issues and the music they used to get away from them. And not to mention, with both of them having such volatile abilities, it was good to have someone else who knew what they were going through.

Eventually, things reached a boiling point at home, and he had to leave. Even with all the connections and coping mechanisms he'd tried to make, he couldn't deal with his family's treatment anymore, and holding it in only seemed to make his shadow lash out instead, which could cause people to get hurt. So he ran away to Silver City. Once he turned 18, he attended the middle college program at SCC to get a high school diploma. Around this time, Maverick reached out to him, needing a place to stay away from home, as they'd gotten expelled from school and despite their parents best efforts, things were no longer safe for them in the suburb they were from.

Mav and Yuvan lived together for a time as roommates, but though they had solidarity in their similarly unnerving abilities, the two were not the most compatible in a living situation at the time. Though Yuvan didn't mind the spiders overall, Mav had not yet fully gotten control over who they bite, and the resulting horrific hallucinatory experiences that their venom caused were very unhelpful to his already rickety mental state. It wasn't until one of these trips caused his shadow to detach and go on a rampage that they decided for everyone's safety, this wasn't gonna work out. Despite this, Yuvan understood Maverick's position, and didn't hold it against them, though it was clear they carried some guilt about the incident. He helped them find a new place and the two remained friends.

Years later, Maverick decided to start a band, and Yuvan had been hearing about their issues with the first draft of members from the sidelines for a bit. Eventually, Mav asked them to join, and they'd been in the band ever since. The band wasn't called Rosehead at the time, and Mav was originally drumming instead of playing guitar. It'd gone through a handful of transitional phases, but eventually becamee the band as we know it now. Even better than that, one of their videos had gone semi-viral and they've done pretty well for themselves online. Yuvan still has a day job for now, as do most of the band, but he hopes this could become something bigger someday.

Notes

• Even after years of hrt, Yuvan's singing voice has a very high register. He's also done a lot of vocal training.
• Yuvan loves horror movies and has an extensive collection of 'classics' that he trie to get all his friends to watch.
• Yuvan has a strong interest in practical effects and stage production. He probably would have gone to film school if not for the trajectory his life took.
• Yuvan does a lot of the songwriting alongside Mav. He's also usually the main person responsible for putting together any music videos the band makes.
• He's usually either the first or last person to band practice.
• He's got a handful of mildly macabre interests, such as taxidermy. He knows a lot of weird trivia about morbid historical facts.
• He occassionally attends an anarchist group, but is pretty spotty in participation due to juggling work and band stuff.

Relationships

Maverick Graves Bandmate/Friend

Mav and Yuvan met in the Seattle metal scene as teenagers. They bonded in the similarities of their upbringings and hard to control abilities, as well as their need to cope with these things through the metal scene. Yuvan left to move to Silver City as soon as possible, and took Mav in when they left home as well. Though their rooming situation didn't work out, they've always remained close friends, so Mav calling him up when trying to get a band going was a no-brainer. Since joining the band, it often would seem these two are basically joined at the hip.

Sal Lawson Bandmate/Friend

Yuvan and Sal are sort of friend-of-friends, both meeting originally because of Mav and the band. Sal's uh... eccentricities stood out to them, but everyone in the group had stuff like that they brough to the table. Since they're both vocalists, they'd spend a decent amount of time working on songs together (alongside the other band members but still), and Yuvan's come to see him as a good friend once some boundaries were set.

David Bandmate/Friend

Dave was the last person to join the band, so Yuvan has known him the least amount of time, but still considers him a friend. As it turns out, he and Dave share a lot of interests, and it's nice to have someone on the level with him when he nerds out about movie production stuff. David's the youngest as well, so maybe there's a bit of protectiveness present as well, not that he seems to need it.

Alistaire friend

Alistaire started hanging around shows because of Sal and Maverick's friend, Charlie. Those two are basically attached at the hip. But while Yuvan doesn't know Charlie too well, he's found himself chattig a lot with Alistaire. He enjoys Alistaire's energy and enthusiasm and general zest for life. It's a bit funny seeing how much he sticks out in this scene, but a lot of the same spirit is there. Yuvan has a lot of respect for the guy.

Charlie uhhhhhhhhh acquaintance?

He's friends with Sal and Mav so he's around a lot. Yuvan thinks hes cool enough, but they don't talk much when not in a group setting with one of their more outgoing mutual friends. If they do it's usually to gripe about work, haha.
