Profile
Samson Goodman
+ Outgoing = Melodramatic − Selfish
"Rock’n roll never dies."
A retired glam rock musician and former petulant diva– one who has managed to mature past his reckless hedonist days with the help of a shelf full of way too many inspirational self-help books. As of now, he’s all about that zen life, baby! He is currently on a hotel vacation with his long-term partner and husband, Glad.
Flamboyant, spontaneous, optimistic, romantic, and always eager to share an exaggerated tale, Samson plays himself up as the life of the party even in his retirement. He's prone to drawing a room’s attention with his theatrical mannerisms whether he really means to or not. Predictably enough, he’s a classic extrovert, happy to cozy up to and act all buddy-buddy with even complete strangers. He’s just happy to hang out in general, eager to cut through the small talk to get to the real essence of human connection to make fun memories while he still can. He’s a thrill seeker at heart, even if he’s gained a slightly better sense of self-preservation over the years. Sometimes, he forgets to follow certain standards of social etiquette he’s set for himself, too caught up in the euphoria of meeting new people to remember that not everyone wants to be propositioned for a drink back in one’s hotel room, or offered a joy ride by a, uh, strange old man... Despite his obtuseness, he is generally accommodating once he’s been made aware of some folly of his. He takes most criticisms to heart, overcompensating for his historically selfish and temperamental nature; of which he is acutely aware.

History
Samson's story begins in 1948, in the bustling city of New York, where he was born to Polish-German parents. Growing up in a strict household with his two older sisters, Samson was always drawn to the world of music and entertainment, despite his family's efforts to instill their values in him. He was a rebel at heart and had a passion for all things loud, bright, and glittery. As a teenager, Samson taught himself how to sing and play the guitar, spending countless hours practicing in his bedroom. After high school, he decided to seriously pursue his dream of becoming a rock star despite the lack of support at home. He quickly made a name for himself in the underground music scene, playing in small clubs and bars. It wasn't long before the fabulous “Samson Goodman” caught the attention of a record label executive, who signed him to a contract.
His first album was a commercial failure, but he didn't let that discourage him. He continued to write and perform, and his second album was a huge success. He became a sensation in the early 70s, known for his flamboyant stage presence and outrageous costumes. He was one of many trailblazers in the glam rock movement and developed quite the ego because of it.
But with fame came a dark side; it truly brought out the worst in him. He was incredibly self-obsessed, irresponsible, and callous behind the curtains. He was a notorious hedonist from the get-go as well, indulging in just about every substance and vice under the sun. Always demanding the best of everything and throwing tantrums when he didn't get his way. His outrageous behavior took a toll on his health and relationships, and by the eighties, the music he was producing was no longer as popular. After one bender too many, another hurt friend, another hurt lover, he began to realize how much he despised the reflection in the mirror. He realized he needed to change, somehow.
Despite his flaws, Samson tried to turn his life around. In the process, he settled down with an old flame named Dalia in his thirties and had a daughter named Abigail. He tried to be his idea of a good father and husband, but it eventually turned into a loveless marriage. He was never quite sure what was to blame: his flaws, an inability to truly commit, or his wife losing interest in him. Either way, Dalia divorced him in his forties despite his pleas for a second chance, and Samson fell into somewhat of a midlife crisis. When he wasn’t busy being depressed, he partied hard, trying to recapture the spark of his youth. Fate intervened in the form of a chance encounter with Gladimir, a successful businessman who he hit it off with almost instantly. They bonded over their shared love for vintage cars and good music, and their friendship grew into something more… Although, it was not without its share of messy moments. In the nineties, he received a devastating and possibly terminal diagnosis. The news was a wake-up call for Samson, and he decided to start focusing on his health– reassessing what he really wanted out of his relationship with Glad as well.
Thankfully, he managed to be in the exact right place and time to get help for his ailment. And, with his supportive partner by his side, Samson did end up finding that sense of balance and stability that had eluded him for so long. He spent the next decade and a half sort of just living life with a little more appreciation for it than he had before, self-publishing the occasional experimental album every half-decade or so. He didn’t attract much attention for it these days, but in a way, it was kind of a nice change of pace.
Samson ended up retiring for real in his sixties, and though it was certainly nice spending quality time with his partner, the kids, and grandkids, he found himself—rebel at heart that he was—yearning for a little more adventure in his life. Truthfully, he dreamed of spending his retirement traveling the world in his vintage Cadillac, visiting all the places he had always wanted to see– and looking great while doing so. It was only last year, as an empty nester without obligations, that he finally found the guts to go through with his admittedly rather whimsical plans. Along with Gladimir, he willingly lived in his car and motels for the better part of a year while on an epic road trip across every US state. They took their time sightseeing and meeting new people. By the time they finished, they were ready to head home to recuperate for a bit, but ended up unexpectedly winning a luxury hotel vacation sweepstakes.
They had plenty of stories to tell to the folks back home already, but, aw hell, what was one more trip? Besides, It alligned with their upcoming anniversery! How could they refuse?
