About
River's story is intertwined with Sunny's, at the start. Very close as children, they went through a similar rough and demanding start in their lives. As Sunny was being moulded into a warrior and navigator, River was earmarked as a tactician. She would master Vunn and Sklam and hone her knowledge of battlefield tactics, in the hopes of someone who would guide and steer. Perhaps a modern-day equivalent to a shaman for this strange hybrid pack/crew of Wurthan mercenaries and Devoma.
After Sunny left, things were never quite the same. The higher-ups chose another promising Devoma as his replacement, and River's training forged on without interruption. But the sheer act of his departure had planted seeds that would lead to disaster. And River couldn't forgive him for that. She was SO ANGRY at her brother. For so many reasons.
By the time she reached maturity and experience to lead her own missions, River had started to notice things straining at the seams. Those who started this hybrid venture had been lost - to either violence or natural causes - and the newer leaders were not experienced enough. On a mission that felt uneasy from the start, River and the crew literally stumbled into a rare cosmic event in an asteroid field. A faraway star had collapsed but the energy from its death had not dissipated evenly, travelling at different speeds and so much more. By the time it was detected by skilled Devoma on-board, it was too late. The energy surge overloaded the ship they were on and practically suffocated the Devoma crewmates with too much energy.
Through a remarkable act of luck, some of the ship's shielding absorbed energy before it enveloped River. She did not perish. But the extreme dose of energy had other, unforeseen effects on her...
