Karalyss

Karalyss was your average young girl, going to school, hanging out with her friends in the woods practicing her gymnastics, helping her neighbours with their garden on weekends and doing other such deeds. Although she was very good at her acrobatics, she felt like she was lacking behind with some of her friends, mostly due to her natural stiffness.

On a one-weekend flea market, while browsing the usual merchants, she noticed a new cart manned by a strange man. His wares looked as if they came from a wizard’s tower and emanated an air of amazement from them. One such ware was a stripped full-body outfit with aquamarine stripes on the right and lavender ones on the left. There was also a label on the garment saying: “Grants the wearer untold agility, flexibility and dexterity. WARNING: do not wear for more than twelve hours at a time”. This last part intrigued the girl as she asked the man: “What happens if you wear this for more than twelve hours?”. To which he responded with: “Oh, the fabric tends to become less reliable after that much strain. It’s best to wash after that time as well.” He cackled with that last part, finding his own words humorous. Wanting to see if the suit could make her better at her gymnastics, Karalyss bought it since the man gave her a generous discount.

The next few days went amazingly for the young girl, having shown off her new skills to her friends, hiding the suit under her regular garments. But one day, after having some fun with her friends a bit later than usual, she forgot the remove her suit before getting into bed.

When she woke up the next day, she went on her usual routine. Until she looked into the mirror, to which she saw her face; white with makeup with markings on her eyes matching the suit's stripes. She was taken aback by the sudden sight of her pale visage. Her first thought was that one of her friends must have sneaked into her room to pull a prank on her, though she soon realized that the “makeup” was actually her skin tone that had become those unusual colors as she tried to wash it off with no success. She then realized that a jester’s hood had appeared on her head during the night. It had the same stripes, colours and fabric as the rest of her outfit. When she tried to remove the suit and the hood, she found that the suit had merged into her skin and the hood had fused with her hair, becoming one and the same.

Now known as “Karalyss The Jester” she wandered from town to town solving troubles, catching felonies and helping townspeople while she was in the vicinity. All the while catching rumors, hints and other information she can gather from the residents about the whereabouts of the merchant that sold her the cursed jester suit that had fused with her, giving her the enhanced acrobatic skills she always wanted, but at the cost of her humanity. Now, forever vagabonding as a vigilante jester trying to cure her cursed body.
