Miriam Fiske

PERSONALITY.

Miriam, though kind at heart, is easily embarrassed, leading to them accidentally getting a bit... snippy when flustered. The rudeness is never intentional, but it's certainly turned people off from getting closer to her in the past despite her attempts to smooth things over. Introverted and shy, she does best with someone who can coax her out of her shell; though this only works when you allow her to go at her own pace.

BACKGROUND.

Born into a family of fishermen in Limsa Lominsa, Miriam was never far from the sea growing up. Her mother, who came from a line of seasoned fishers, was the one who handled catching the fish, along with her sibling Peri, while Miriam’s father sold their catches in the markets. Miriam, though, wasn’t quite fond of either of those options — too shy to grab enough attention to sell, and too bookish to be interested in the labor that comes with fishing. Instead, Miriam spent her days on the fishing boat reading about marine biology/ecology and studying what was caught before bringing it back.

One day during a storm, the boat got turned around. Lost and unsure of where they were, they unluckily landed in pirate waters. After an attack on the ship by a rogue pirate crew, Miriam was separated from her family, but thankfully wound up mostly uninjured on the La Noscean shores. Her mother and sibling weren’t so lucky, though, only returning after a rescue mission. Miriam didn’t just sit around doing nothing while waiting for their return though — they worked themself ragged going over the few tomes they had on healing. Both their mother and Peri were safely returned after a rescue mission, though not uninjured. Miriam spent years of her life caring for them, her father helping out when possible.

With the funds her family saved to send her off to receive proper academic training dwindling quickly due to the lack of steady income they were receiving, Miriam spent most of her mid to late teenage years caring for her mom and Peri. They developed a routine caring for them, one they weren’t quick to break long after their mom and Peri no longer needed their assistance. It was quite the shock when her mother and Peri told her she no longer had to, thinking they had come to a mutual agreement that this was just Miriam’s life now. Having had enough of seeing their beloved Miriam spend her days aimlessly, both her parents and Peri took the time to encourage her to travel after giving her what little money they could scrounge up.

Miriam, though wary, took this opportunity after taking some time to think on it. She might not be able to receive a formal education, but she could take matters into her own hands and learn on her own terms. Needing money to fund her personal research, Miriam joins the adventurer guild, where her natural proficiency with healing magic that she had honed over time gets her quite the bit of work. They eventually settle in with a permanent party, one full of people they can gladly call their friends after a while.
