Aster was taken by fey to the feywild when she was somewhere around 5 years old in human years. She had been lost in the forest when the fey found her and (forcibly) adopted her. They called her Kylaithis, which meant Shining Star in the language the family made to communicate as Aster grew up in the feywild. Their adopters were quite protective over them and didn't like the friendship she built with another girl who was brought up in the feywild too from a young age, Nèphyr. Nèphyr (at that time called Nyferia, meaning Warm Sky) had acccidentially gotten lost in the feywild on her own, and was taken in by a fey.

The two grew up together and played a lot as children. They were both obsessed with a book that Nèphyr got from the fey that had taken her in. They started calling each other after their favourite characters, which is where the nicknames Aster and Nèphyr come from. Nèphyr and Aster got very attached to each other and started dating later on. When they were both about 18 in human years they left the feywild, after Nèphyr had broken Aster out of the room that her family had locked her in to 'keep her safe'.

When they left the feywild, they both made new nicknames for each other. Neya Ithis for Aster, which meant New Star in the language the two had made up as kids, and Neya Feria for Nèphyr which meant New Sky in the same language. The two started travelling and discovering the places on the lists that they had made, all while documenting their adventures and travels in diaries and logs. This, however, came to an end when Nèphyr found out she had a lung disease, caused by the switch from the feywild to another plane, which made it harder for her to breathe, and so harder to travel. Nèphyr refused to stop travelling and made a wheelchair for herself so she could keep travelling but Aster got worried. She was scared that Nèphyr wouldn't be able to protect herself properly, so they started training and learning how to fight to keep themselves and their girlfriend safe. She named her first sword "Neya" in honor of the new freedom that she and Nèphyr got.

Everything seemed to go well for a while, till one day when the two where watching the sunrise from the cliffs where they had set up their small camp. Nèphyr decided to get out of the wheelchair and dance to the music that Aster was playing on her flute. Suddenly Nèphyrs lungs stopped working properly, making her unable to breathe. Aster held her love, listening to her broken breaths, as she died, after this Aster burned the flute along with Nèphyr's body. She never played an instrument afterwards, disliking music and especially flutes because of the memories. After Nèphyr died Aster fulfilled the request she had made right before dying, that being to keep travelling and discovering new places. Aster did this and they've been travelling ever since. However their personality changed much, becoming way more closed off, pessimistic and often perceived as rude or blunt.
