Summary
Veelae are the smallest Lythians to originate from the realm of Avalon. Because their forms are so compact, it is said that they only have room for one nature at a time. Unfortunately for Veelae, they tend to fall into two categories: benevolent and malevolent.
In addition, all Veelae are born with magical powers, and therefore, band together to form courts of "good" and "evil" to balance out the world and each other. However, nothing is just black and white, so the actions of these pixies don’t always reflect their intentions. For example, a benevolent Veela might have been harmed by another Lythian; in retaliation, it may return fire, because it is "good" to seek justice when you have been wronged. On the other hand, a malevolent Veela may witness its kind be hurt by another Lythian and may lay a curse on them, because it is "evil" to cause harm to any living being, no matter what they’ve done.
✦ Body
Veelae have very small, compact bodies, and are amongst one of the smallest denizens of Lyth. They are just under a foot tall when upright, so about the same size as your average Levii. They are able to walk on their hindpaws, though most prefer to fly through the use of their magic. Because of this, it is common for Veelae to have vestigial paw pads, which can be just a coloration difference with no padding; some don’t have them at all. In addition, Veelae often lack opposable thumbs, as it is much easier for them to just use magic to levitate objects.
✦ False Hood (& Ears)
All Veelae have something known as a "false hood" that covers part of their skull. It is not actually a removable piece of clothing, rather, just a textured portion that’s slightly denser than the rest of their skin or fur. The style and coverage of a Veela’s false hood varies, but their face is always bare. If the individual has ears, they can be completely covered by the hood or have portions peeking through.
✦ Neckpiece
Depending on the variant, all Veelae have either a mane or a collar that encircles their neck region. Like their false hoods, these are not removable and can often be textured differently than the rest of their body. It is believed that a Veela’s neckpiece shows how much magic they can store; the bigger the mane or collar, the larger the reserve.
✦ Tail
Most Veelae have tails, which are very expressive. You can tell how a Veela is feeling by watching how its tail moves. For example, a twitchy tail may indicate excitement or nervousness.
✦ Magic
Magic is something that comes naturally to a Veela, usually at a very young age. All Veelae are able to utilize their magic for transportation, which is why it’s not unusual to see these pixies floating slightly off the ground rather than standing directly on it. They are also able to cast this on objects, which allows them to levitate things much larger than themselves. Most Veelae are elementally aligned, with the two most common being light (for the benevolent) and dark (for the malevolent), though other elements can also be found. Another skill that all Veelae share is the ability to shift into "Attack Mode." When in this mode, parts of the Veela may shift and begin glowing, a clear indication that a powerful spell is about to be cast.
Variants
✦ Charmed
Charmed Veelae are the benevolent variant, with a tendency to be kind and thoughtful. They are always willing to lend a hand to those in need, and their courts are largely benign towards other Lythians. They are less confrontational than their malevolent counterparts and try to stop aggravations rather than start them. However, they can still become aggressive when they feel threatened and will not hesitate to use their magic to protect or avenge a loved one.
✦ Jinxed
Jinxed Veelae are the malevolent variant, prone to playing pranks, even at the expense of others. They are less sociable than their benevolent counterparts, preferring to keep to their own courts. They are typically viewed as mischievous and untrustworthy, with little understanding of mercy. Jinxed Veelae can, however, be temporarily appeased or convinced to do good, but only if they get something out of it.

Baby Information
Baby Veelae are often called "wisps" due to their general lack of head appendages except for a small tuft of fur on the back of their skulls, resulting in a head shape that’s kind of like a candle flame; it is believed that this small patch of fur will develop into their false hood as they grow. They come into the world with no natural alignment and an undefined magic, which is not very strong yet due to not having a neckpiece, so no reserves. Because of this, they are also born with a pair of wings, which allows them to physically fly until they are able to do so with magic alone. After they learn to levitate, most Veelae shed their wings, though some retain them as vestigial organs.
✦ Baby Features
- Baby Veelae have no ears, no horns, no halos, and no false hoods.

- They do not have a neckpiece yet, though some may have a small patch of fur or protrusion there.

Origin Story & Quest
Alfeer
In a faraway realm, hidden from the eyes of mortals, there were two factions locked in a never-ending war. One was on the side of good, fighting for what was moral, just, and fair. The other was on the side of evil, fighting for the immoral, unjust, and unfair. However, this war had been raging on for so long that both sides forgot what they were fighting for. Who should stand in the light? Who should retreat to the darkness? It’s too late to stop now…
Baby Veelae begin manifesting signs of benevolence or malevolence at a very young age. Even before they can talk, one can usually tell the difference between the two variants by which wisps are smiling and approachable, and which ones are scowling for no apparent reason. Because magic comes so naturally to them, one of the first things to develop on a wisp is its neckpiece. For the Charmed, their fur grows into a mane, while the Jinxed form a collar.
What variant traits are manifesting on your Veela? Which magical alignment are they leaning towards? Please portray your Veela using their baby design or an adolescent design that’s not quite their adult form yet.
