Overview

Spirited daughter of a Shinto priestess and miko at Kikuike Shrine, Tama spends her evenings high in the canopies of Kamakura. From the chorus of cicadas in the summer to the serenity of a rain-washed shrine, Tama embraces her role as a miko, engaging in sacred rituals and vibrant kagura performances alongside her family. She's the eldest among her six siblings. Despite her quiet and endlessly playful demeanor, she takes surprising responsibility at home.

Being a margay, she's noticably pretty strange and agile, even able to climb down trees head-first. She’s not so much of an academic as she is street-smart, tending to only get decent grades on subjects she’s super passionate about. Tama can be shy when discussing her family's practices, but will gush nonstop when someone seems to show genuine interest.
While some kids find Tama weird, they usually leave her be due to the reverence surrounding her family's shrine, known for its connection to rainy season kami.

Positive traits

Negative traits

  • quiet
  • eccentric
  • forgetful
  • distractable

Tama's upbeat and quirky personality is a stark contrast to her deceivingly shy front. Typically quiet and easily flustered, she has a nasally voice and an almost frog-like grin. She has an impressive level of flexibility, finding joy in climbing trees and scaling walls with ease. Despite not really excelling academically, Tama's cleverness shine through outside the classroom. She's often way too bashful to talk about her home life, preferring to keep her passions to herself. At home, she's responsible and endlessly hardworking, helping her mother with shrine duties and raising her younger siblings.

She has zero interest in boys, but forces herself to ‘have a crush’ on Suzuna’s older brother, in an attempt to fit in with the rest of the freshly doting girls in her class. In reality, there’s zero romantic attraction - she just thinks he’s cool and wants to play baseball when she’s older!

Story

From the sacred rituals she performed with grace to the messy chaos of her bustling household, Tama embraced every facet of her comfortable life in the mountains.

With a soft spot for frogs and an unmistakably nasally voice, Tama's responsible nature stretched beyond her shrine duties to watching over her younger siblings. They, too, shared her agility and eccentricities, creating a lively, though sometimes completely overwhelming family dynamic. Living on the shrine grounds, nestled in the mountains a short distance from the main town, Tama found solace and adventure in the surrounding forests that yawned ahead in every direction.

Outside of home, she was a tangle of sprawling limbs and spots, effortlessly scaling trees and dancing among the canopies. She spent her free time exploring the mountains, always on the lookout for frogs and insects, earning a reputation for being the undisputed champion in catching cicadas during the summer seasons. It wasn't uncommon for her friends to join her in the mountains after school, where they'd weave between trees in pursuit of one another.

wavebreaker

Tama didn't know what to think when class 6-A began hounding Miho.

They suspected Miho was responsible for Kamakura's early rainy season and sudden typhoons. Why not her, then? Why not take out that rage on the daughter of the Kikuike shrine?
Often, people would visit her family's shrine, granting offerings and praying for gentle tides, calm weather, and just enough rain to tend to the crops. These were the forces that the kami of Kikuike shrine had domain over.

It wasn't long before Miho was brought into their friend group, though quiet and mysterious as ever. It was clear to them then that she was, without a doubt, influencing the town's weather. Despite not having any abilities of her own, Tama sympathized with the tanuki, using her role as shrine maiden to help Miho find answers and find solace from her home situation.

Relations

Kana Asahi

close friend

Met a long time ago, but Tama could never rouse up the strength to talk to Kana! It wasn't until Kana made the first move that they actually clicked. She shares Kana's love for the outdoors. Tama's usually seen trying to teach Kana to scale walls, climb trees, do flips, etc. It's thanks to her help that Kana is as agile as she is.

Mamimi Kizuuchi

best friend

Even though Tama was one of the last people to meet Mamimi, they managed to hit it off right away. Their conflicting personalities instead complement one another, with their shared weirdness acting as the glue. Tama is also sparing enough to help Mamimi with the homework she forgets every week. She doesn't take her help for granted, admiring her intelligence. They play DS games together every weekend.

miho amamori

friend?

Tama finds it admittedly hard to get past Miho's icy front. Still, she deeply sympathizes with her and tries to help in any way that she can. Tama admires that they both have some kind of divine connection to rain, whether it be good or bad.
