Jolt

Born and raised in the Borealis Enclave, Jolt is quick with their movements, too fast to act, and scatterbrained at best.

Growing through a quite uneventful childhood like a sunflower towards the sun, there's one thing that sets Jolt's younger years apart from the norm. Adventurous and as curious as they come, it was only a matter of time before they'd wander too far from their guardians, and get lost.

And get lost they did. The City of Lost Songs stretched as far as the eye could see - and then some for such a small merperson. Broken masts of gloomy shipwrecks reached for the open waters above like splintered claws of unrelenting predators. Such is an image Jolt carries with them to this day, reminding them of both bad, and good.

Instead of finding their demise in the graveyard for punctured hulls, the young merrow was approached by not malevolence or raw survival instinct, but curiosity - bent backwards against the nature of its very being. Out of those nightmares, Jolt pulled a companion - a huge, shark-like beast, that became indebted to the young child. Despite its size, its curiosity towards the wailing merperson in the middle of the lamenting ships had a leaden rim of helplessness.

After Jolt nurtured the beast back to the perfect predator it once was - despite the harsh resistance the backwards merrow's wardens spit at them - the two became inseparable.

When portals started opening to and from the ocean world after an era of isolation, it dawned on Jolt, right at the verge of their adulthood, that there was something more out there.

Out There became their next step - their goal to achieve. Even though their first trip was a lot shorter of a visit they would've hoped, it sparked something inside their chest.

Suddenly, the world didn't seem so big anymore.
