Haolu (HOW-LOO)
The merman snaps back at you as you try to help him off the dock and back into the water. You jump away since he has a set of sharp teeth, and you do not want a nasty bite. He hisses at you, his English broken but good enough to understand. He spits, "Away! Human...! ...Bad human...!"

About: Halou is an outcasted merman that lives on his own, traveling the oceans just to live his life. He is considered to be a “feral merman” and is unwelcome in most merman communities. He is quite beautiful despite his animal-like behaviors. He only speaks in a variant of Merfolkian language and very little English due to a period of time where he was captured by humans. He is untrusting of most humans and merfolk and is overly defensive. If cornered, he will hiss, bite, and scratch like a cornered cat. His face and eyes are beautiful, but his body is covered in old scars from many old encounters -- but many of them are from his period of capture. He was greatly mistreated by the humans who caught him and endured years of their torment before finally escaping. The day of his escape is a painful memory as he permanently blinded one of his captors and killed another one. Because of this, Haolu especially does not like humans and avoids them at all costs. He is a tenacious merman and will do all he can to defend himself if in a sticky situation. Despite this, if one manages to gain his trust, he becomes a very loyal companion. He can get very protective (borderline possessive) of the ones he cares for.
