Yuyu was an orphan, a street rat who only survived on random acts of kindness. However, one day, she found a hat discarded and forgotten in a corner. Instead of placing it on her head, though, she placed it on her tail to see how it looked. That decision saved her very life, for in a painful fit, the end of her tail was possessed and transformed into Klaus, a man who once sought to have the world in the palm of his hand.

At first, he was not kind to her and made her submit to his whims, doing more than a few things she now regrets and losing any chance she had at a normal childhood. Eventually, though, she grew a backbone and found out how to stand up to Klaus and make him realize who owned the body he was attached to. After all, he could only ever control the tail, and even that wasn't a guarantee. Yuyu can also cut him off from all magic.

Now they are in a kind of forced-together alliance as Yuyu works as a roaming adventurer doing odd jobs for cash, dragging Klaus along for the ride.
